Sigmartag Feedback

First of all, thank you for this great event, Sigmartag has always been a highlight for me and many people during the year as one of the better events that interact with RvR and a large amount of players - more events like this are welcome, but variety is important too.

With that said, this year's Sigmartag many of us noticed, and unfortunately were sad about, that the event was largely ignored by the majority of players. I'd wildly guess that 80% of Relic Runs were completely PvE without any attempts to stop them for varying reasons, which I'd like to talk about here.

  • Mounting with the Relic is noticeably avoiding many fights done during the event. Both due to reducing the time available to attack, and also because the Relic can just run away from battles. Another post from Ninjagon mentioned this!
  • Relic runs starting or happening are still largely unnoticed by most, unless there is a person on the faction online who will make a ruckus about it in T4 chat. The Middle-Screen pop-up certainly helped but many still completely miss the Relic Event from starting.
  • The Timer for Relics is still largely confusing. If players are not communicating, or again you don't have a proper warband running the Relic, the timer is usually unknown and there are many decays happening randomly.

The Rewards

The final point I'd like to make, which is a much larger issue, affecting more than just Sigmartag - The Rewards.
I know it sounds silly to mention rewards as an issue, during an event that can give players a stacking Renown Bonus up to +125%, isn't it? I thought so as well, until I talked with a lot of players.

Most of them told me that they don't care about Renown, as Renown is not the main bottleneck when it comes to the progression of your characters, but War Crests - and so while it's cool to get the Renown bonuses, you don't really get any closer to being able to buy your BIS.

Since progression has been a topic of many opinions over the years, I understand this is not an easy thing to fix - but these events that are meant to be super fun and engaging for players are starting to no longer draw in the crowd that they used to, and perhaps events should also start to split the rewards they give between Renown Points and War Crests both, to accommodate the reality of RoR - which is that you need both lots of RR and War Crests, the latter being the bigger grind.

Regardless of what changes will be done, if any at all, I hope the rewards will be looked at to determine what would encourage more players to care about joining these events again for the epic battles they used to create in prior years.

Pretty much agree. My reason for ignoring it is I couldn't be arsed to do full completion on multiple characters for borrowed power. Others will have their own reasons ofc.

+1 on relic run needs to be changed. I think I ran it five times on both sides and only once was it contested in any meaningful way. If you don't want to remove the mounted component (b/c, for example, it would make it too tediously slow in general) then consider making it such that it is easy to dismount the carrier and once dismounted there is a timer preventing relic retrieval (certainly no more than 15 - 30 seconds). This would allow suicide attacks into the blob to slow it up and force the carriers to screen better which would make for targets for the opposing realm.

+1 on crests. I have mostly soloed my eight 80s all the way up and while there is usually just enough crests to get Sov by 80 or at least partial Sov, the fact of the matter remains that the number one gearing advice new people are given is to save crests for Sov after 40 and go get the PVE sets instead. Given this is primarily a PvP game that is pretty damning that most people feel they can't effectively gear in RvR/SCs. As noted above the renown increases actually make it feel worse for new players because it *feels* like they are further behind on gear b/c they are getting ahead on renown. On the other side of the coin, there are guild premades swimming in crests b/c they are farming kills but that is just another symptom of the problem.

Aye I am genuinely a bit sad to level RR if I don't have the crests for the gear I want so I don't use any of the RR boosters and try to avoid events that boost it as well. Like Aethilmar I level mostly solo and have the gear I want by 80 but its become a bit of a hangup for me now, my baby WE hit 79 this weekend and I was actually a bit upset because I am a bit behind on where I think my crests should be at.

As for the Relic run why not have it be like the old resource runners from live, click on it and it mounts up and runs on its own, you have to keep up with it to defend, it will leave you behind during fights so you need to keep mobile, make it path right through the center of the lakes.

I agree. The event is super cool but it would have been even nicer if the relic would draw more people in. I also suggested only spawning the relic in active t4 pairings, so players dont nhave to leave their active zone if they dont want to. This might bring even more people in, that would otherwise not engage in the content.

Better than nothing? Yes, always.

The "busy work" quests were pretty uninspiring and tedious

Rewards were uninspiring

Cloak from chain was garbage

Atmospheric adjustments around the city, though seemed to give lag spikes as the nifs loaded in, were well done.

Relic run was very meh

Getting multiple versions of the same mount just with longer timers is a huge "who the hell cares", if the event chain was longer and completing them all led to a perma mount, even if it wasnt one I liked, I would have done it just to collect the mount because thats what people do, expiring mounts as a whole is meh and while I can understand the premise behind it there should be a path to perma even if its something like "buy mount X 50 times"

All in all, though my criticism seems largely negative I am just illustrating what I feel could be done better but then anything and everything could be done better.

I would give it 7/10, the effort put in was clear and given its all done for free by enthusiasts over and over, its an impressive feat and shouldnt be held to the same expectations as a paid for service on a live game. You keep making the content and you keep pushing it out. its an achievement you should be proud of in spite of the whiny playerbase.

It was a very boring event for myself. This is the fi4st event where it seems the population dropped. I could be wrong though.

100 Skulls to turn in was downright diabolical too.

Not with one of my chars was i able to finish the event, since i had to switch classes depending on what the warbands needed. And because you only get 1 skull , for 1 kill, for the full warband of 24 players it was absolute impossible to get the 100 for your char if you played in warbands.

Most of them told me that they don't care about Renown, as Renown is not the main bottleneck when it comes to the progression of your characters, but War Crests - and so while it's cool to get the Renown bonuses, you don't really get any closer to being able to buy your BIS.
I find that I have the opposite issue (outside of 2x events) where renown ends up being my bottleneck, not crests. My slayer and sorceress had BiS in bags at 70/72RR respectively. I think the main issue is that some people play a lot more than the reward system intends. Because of this they start to reach a harsh diminishing return on crest gain vs renown gain.

The largest portion of good crests vs time spent will be gained from weekly or bi-weekly sources; orvr influence, weekend SC event, city, lotd. There's a heavy weighting on rewards from weekly and bi-weekly activities. If you play an extra amount outside of these things you tend to notice that your crest gains feel bad because you are running out of large crest drops. First couples days of a week with everything reset you can easily make 700-800 crests per day from capping weekly and winning a city but after all your bonus activities are exhausted and you go to orvr blobville your crest gain falls off the map comparatively.

What I do is play 3-4 alts concurrently, because my teams always need a different role/class for their group comp anyway, and end up finishing the weeklies on each of them but only playing a few hours per character. Most weeks 10-15 hours max with all combined. What most do is play the same character relentlessly 40+ hours a week, get burnt out and end up with poorly skewed renown vs crest ratios.

All that being said I do think there needs to be a reward structure rework. Whether it be game-wide renown/crest increases or war crest cost reduction on the gear itself. It's unfortunate that many cannot experience the game fully on any given class due to the fact some classes require in excess of 50-60k crests to be able to play every single build available to them at endgame bis. It's a much better option for virtually any player to get 1-2 additional characters to 80RR than to spend the time grinding 20-40k additional crests on a single character. High costs, steep grinds and other barriers of entry to gearing severely hampers the community overall in many categories; skill growth, theorycrafting/buildcrafting, playing alts, etc.

Proposal: Allow gear on the same ward (or ToK unlock for warlord/sov) to be purchased for a reduced price. Imo 50% is the sweet spot here, not too much and not too little. Example: I have full Vanquisher and the ward/ToK associated with it fully unlocked. I can now visit the Oppressor merchant (Vanquisher offset) and purchase Oppressor pieces at a 50% discount. The same would work for all purchased war crest sets in the game. This means that when looking to buy the offset for Sovereign, it would only cost 5167 crests instead of 10333. Same should apply to Ranked Rings as well - if you have purchased the Triumphant Ring for 9999 then the Victorious would be available for discount at 5000. This should be able to be achieved fairly easily using ToK system as we have with the live event cloak vendor - simply create some new npcs with locked items and only allow players purchase the items if they have the appropriate ToK associated with a full ward/set unlock.

the mounts were pretty cool, the quests pretty easy, needed 3 man group only for last boss \could be duo with tank\. Rest of rewards were abit meh, relic on theory is cool but the mount carrier really could bypass many fights. After first clash most of the time is zerg moving tru 2-3 zones uncontested.

Only the hidden quest for reikland teleport item was worth for me, rest was in between. Much dislike for colleague of corruption scens also since its design favors heavily one side pretty hard so i hate that map that were kinda mandatory
