Did it ever occur to you that when your factions wb disappears its could be due to people simply logging off? Or maybe they went afk in the wc? Or they went to a lower tier, or to pve, or scenarios, or a different zones, or whatever.
Because none of these threads about this topic have ever been able to prove this happens in large enough numbers to be a serious concern.
Is there anything you can do about Order/Destro hopping?

Pointing out problems in various ideas brought up is not the same as defending whatever those ideas are meant to prevent, despite your claims. There are actually two points there: the still limited effectiveness (which you didn't really talk about), and the problems it will bring to people playing from the same IP. Which you did acknowledge eventually, true, but the "solution" you posted, both times, looked like this:Gachimuchi wrote:I never said my idea was perfect. You just didn't post anything relevant. And yes, with as much zeal you defend xrealming with I can only assume you do exactly that and are heavily biased. Also, now that I have pointed out how vague you are being the only point you cling to is the one I have acknowledged, people legitimately playing from the same IP. I have stated a possible solution to this. But I digress.
Still an issue.
Gachimuchi wrote:In cases of multiple people playing from the same IP, send an email to a GM or some other official to handle the situation and add an exception.
Since you called me vague when I was referring to an earlier, more detailed thread, I will point out how very vague those "solutions" are. Possible problems with those exceptions were also brought up, here.Gachimuchi wrote:And even then there can be exceptions worked out.
To summarise the same thing again: it would prevent some crossrealming, but not all, by far, since getting a new IP isn't very difficult or very time-consuming. (It's a variation of the old IP lockout idea.) In exchange for this, you would prevent people using a shared internet connection from playing unless they submit an application which is either as completely pointless as having a lockout on accounts, or involves a thorough check of the claim which is highly inconvenient and time-consuming both for the players involved and the staff responsible for it (and likely can be still fooled by multiboxing, for example), or somewhere between the two. Probably there would be many false claims as well, even if filtered out, they would mean extra work.
Some people might say it's worth that cost. But unless they are the players who have to go through that application process just to play the game, or the GM tasked with checking and approving them - all for discouraging some, but not even nearly all crossrealming - it makes the credibility of their opinion somewhat dubious.
Re: Is there anything you can do about Order/Destro hopping?
There was an idea that people might be given an incentive to stay in their faction when things turn bad for them (when the crossrealming usually happens). Any new ideas put up for discussion would be welcome. Trouble is that these threads/ingame discussions always reach for the same two ideas: account lockout, IP lockout.Talsorc wrote:It's an issue even if there is "no fix" to it, there are plenty of ways to address it. Think outside the box. Don't turn this into some flaming match or an argument. Thanks.
And yes, probably some of the people leaving after some failure are doing just that: leaving the RvR. Then there are players who prefer to play on the side with the AAO so they will often crossrealm to the weaker side. That said, I still have the impression there are many players who crossrealm at the first (or second, or third... for some it takes a while to recognise it) sign of trouble. An attractive, if frustrating, thought there is that these are the same people who are responsible for that situation due to mindless playing and not paying attention. So some anti-crossrealming measure that works and has no negative side effects would be nice to have.
Re: Is there anything you can do about Order/Destro hopping?
Population is low. Limiting how someone plays the game would be autism. No.. I don't xrealm.. I'm just not too stupid to see the obvious problem with your solutions of puting timers on when or how we play a f2p game. I swear some people....

These faction hoppers are clearly worse than Hitler. I mean how dare they not conform to the will of a loudmouth moron.

I WILL BUILD A WALL TO STOP CROSS-REALMERS AND MAKE RETURN OF RECKONING GREAT AGAIN!
Spoiler:
Re: Is there anything you can do about Order/Destro hopping?
I have no doubt there are people who cross-realm, but I would be surprised if it is actually as bad as we all think it is. It would be interesting to see the login / logout activity after a big wipe for order or destro.
To be honest a big part of the population shift is that after a big wipe people go afk, take a break, swap to scenarios, or move zones. It was the same back on live. Once momentum is gone, it takes a while to build it back up again, if you do not have a lot of organized groups, and warbands out.
Think of it this way. Destro is pushing order keep, and you have a back and forth at the outer / inner gates for about 15-20. People ninja BO's and after another 20-30 Destro wipes. Order then pushes back and takes the BO's and then goes for the keep. This takes about 30 min. Destro does the same and wipes order at their keep.
From start to finish that is about 90 min to 2 hours of playtime, maybe more. It's pretty natural to take a break if your faction stalls out.

xRealming is a bad thing and an insult? Really?
That's some serious neo-tribalism going on.

Re: Is there anything you can do about Order/Destro hopping?
Not so obvious to me. We don't actually know if people are hopping and how many.Talsorc wrote:Pretty sick of seeing a full order WB and destro at 20% AAO into a 12 man WB and 160% aao on order. It's obvious that people are logging onto destro/order characters when one side is doing poor in RVR or scenarios. It is poor sportsmanship and annoying to say the least. Is there anything the developers could do to implement maybe a 30 minute IP timer between switching to order/destro toons?
Re: Is there anything you can do about Order/Destro hopping?
Firstly: What is AAO?
Second: I tend to switch sides when my side is stronger. I like being the underdog.
Third: It has been said - if you cannot switch, then the game will die. One side will be permanently dominant. So, great idea.
Also - in this game, you lose. That way, it really is for mature players. It's not that your enemy's class is OP, or that they are server hopping, or that BW bomb too much. It's that losing is part of the game. Grow a pair and deal with it. Thank you.
