Warhammer had player collission detection from the beginning to the end. It was off by default, but it was triggered on if an enemy entered your range of visibilty (the range - not actual visibilty, so stealthed characteres triggered it also).
I read that the range of visibility was about 700 units. Not sure about this, but i think you have to be also pvp flagged to trigger it.
Afaik they only switched it off one time and it was only on the test server.
On the original server you had to run around an enemy to get in his back to avoid damage / do extra damage.
On the private server you see players sliding back and forth through you, to avoid getting damaged.
Player collission detection was one of the most important features in WARs pvp, that allowed for a special gameplay other mmos couldn't offer (e.g. tankwall in castle sieges).
P.S.: I played until about six month before the end, not sure if they changed it afterwards.

Re: Inspiration and Dispair
Granted, collision detection added some latency but I think it's a key feature to the combat system.
Without it, tanks become more a less a useless asset in siege/defence. No collision detection, no tank wall

Re: Inspiration and Dispair
Collision detection more or less is WAR!
Try a funnel wo it or a last stand on top floor. Was even more obvious back in the good ol days when underdog groups defended BOs.

A reasonable RvR system that could make the majority happy http://imgur.com/HL6cgl7
Re: Inspiration and Dispair
I even think this should be built on. When AAO is high keep capture flag should be spawned on top floor instead. Possibly even in a "good corner" just to make tank walls and last stands even more effective and help the underdog.

Re: Inspiration and Dispair
Videos are great but i cannot agree with the material in the link at the end.Tell me one mmo wich dont have technical problems, bad design decisions, class imbalances,etc,etc,etc...The only problem WAR suffered was the lack of support.EA/mythic abandoned the game soon after the start.Thats it.WAR was,is and always will be a great mmo. With the right support everything could be overcome.I willl not talk abouth the big mmo's on the market right now.Look at rift or neverwinter, mediocre mmo's at best, but with the right support they make tens of millions per year.Even old and super outdated mmo like lotro make that amount of money.Everyone know how rich is the WAR univers-in lore, events, places, races, clases. With the right support this game could be the very profitable but no one cared.

Re: Inspiration and Dispair
When nobody was left to care. See, after Mark left, the only people that remained in Mythic were careerists. They didn't care about WAR. They cared only about their CV + salary. Which, ironically enough, would both be way better if they actually took care of their game. This way they have a H.U.G.E. stain on their CVs. Serves them right if you ask me.
And yes, Warhammer Fantasy is super rich. Why doesn't GW use it to create The Elder Scrolls/The Witcher like phenomena is beyond me. Again, if you ask me, I'd fire the whole GW management(not so much the lower tiers, but the upper ones... OH BOY!) because I feel like their minds are back in the year 2005 or so.
Finally, Rift isn't a half bad game. The only thing missing is better quest writing. Oddly enough, that's all it'd take for people to realise just how good that game is(and filthy packed with content as well).
p.s. OP what a BEAUTIFUL collection of videos! Everytime I see Ellyrion or Saphery I go crazy with rage directed at GW for not leveraging it better. Just the thought of seeing the Dragon Gate(I guess this one was present in game /shrug) and the golden Ellyrian fields in modern engine... /le sigh. Whatever

Re: Inspiration and Dispair
I don't think anyone at GW cares about the long-term effects of their licence (mis-)managment:

Here is a list of all GW video games.
I think only a handfull of this games are really good (WAR, Dawn of War series). Most are just abysmal.
