Well on one hand I'm glad I don't have to do any tedious errands, but on the other hand I'm a bit let down. So there also aren't any quest that I can pick up that encourage me to go to the next zone?

Thanks though.
If you're looking to see the world and earn some extra cash, you can do this in each pairing, in each tier:

1. Fly to the warcamp. There will be a ton of quests to go talk to the Rally Master at a chapter hub in your zone. Pick up all of these.
2. Fly to the Ch. 1 camp, and talk to the Rally Master. Not only will you be able to turn in the first quest from the warcamp, but he will also have a second quest for you to visit the Ch. 2 camp. Repeat ad nauseam.

In this way, you can turn in two quests at each chapter camp, and you can do so in an unbroken chain as long as you pick up the quests at the warcamp first. Each one of these quests (in most chapters) pays out as much gold as a single kill quest - probably more now that the kill quest payout has been reduced. The last chapter camp in each zone should also push you to visit the next zone - but fly to their warcmap first to pick up the quests there, or you'll have to backtrack.

Apparently I'm too low for T2 yet.
Can anybody give me a rundown on when to go where?

Go to t2 when you are level 12, and t3 when you are level 22.

Well at level 12 sieges can be really painful, given how apparently the stats don't get equalized like they do in t1.
Guess I'll have to bite the pillow.

Being at the lower end of the bracket sure does suck, but yeh, just gotta "bite the pillow".
It'll get worse in t3 fighting really geared players.
Green Talis will give you a small boost, and make sure your gear is up to date. Getting helm/shoulders from the AH for low levels is usually easy.
