ILL make this quick. Looking for feedback on which class you think suites me best. I currently have a 35/40 Knight, a 35/34 SM, A 31/28 Chosen, a 34/32 BW, and a 22/18 DPS AM.
What do I want to do? I have always enjoying playing two types of "classes/rolls". My ideal class is a "tanky/dps/melee" class. So two examples of this would be a 2h Warrior in WoW (not fury), I also played a 2H Enhancement Shaman in WoW as well which was a TON of fun. Or more recently played a "Great Weapon Fighter" in a game called Neverwinter (not nights). This is a "fighter" (for those that know D&D) which is a "tank" but opts for a 2H in order to dish out more damage.
I tried a 2H Knight only to realize their damage is pathetic and noone should ever play a 2H Knight. Which lead me to try a Chosen, who seems much more apt for 2H given Supression and Oppressing blows. I also am enjoying SM as well, 2H, and going WW spec as ED doesnt seem to be AS good (IMO) and SM also seems more structured around a 2H. Please dont flame about tanks job is to guard. I 100% get that, and realize my DPS is only going to supplement a MDPS' but I absolutely LOATH going full tank - it just doesnt appeal to me.
Another side note is my BW. Not my favorite class but mainly play him for RvR Keep defense. Since most times on any of my tanks, I end up just guarding a BW/Sorc on the wall for them to kill, so I thought I would try my hand at that. Its fun. Not something I want to "Main" per se, but do enjoy it very much and will probably continue to play my BW for Keep Defense only.
I have looked at Black Orc as well, given "Gork Smash" and "Stab you Gooder" and wonder if maybe I should try my hand there... I dont want to re-level ANOTHER tank class (or any class) unless I am sure I will be playing it.
I just thought I would get some opinions as everyone I talk to says "Play what you want to play" but the problem is I dont know what I want to play! Ha! I dont have T4 perspective, I dont want to play a class (like a Knight) and then feel like im really sub-par and almost taking away from the group if I want to roll a more DPS-y tank with a 2h (preferred). Chosen appealed to me until I realized Destined for Victory is a really a must have in T4 so it seems its sub optimal to play a 2h. SM is appealing due to spirit damage, but as of right now you cant get WW and Balanced Accuracy (crit tactic) so its hard to judge... I already ruled out Knight. I havnt ruled out MDPS however am not a HUGE fan of non-"tanky" classes, so I dont want to have to require a guard or anything like that. But I am open to playing a WL potentially if that may fit my playstyle more....

So you want to ask people to help you choose something to play? dayum, do you do this for real life decisions too? he he. Hi everyone, what panties should I wear today, hit "like" to help me decide :^)
Re: [Tier 4] What class do YOU think I should play?
It sounds like you want to play DPS or 2H oriented tanks, play SM/IB or Chosen.
The problem all the other tanks currently suffer from is 2H just isn't ever going to be as good as SnB unless there is a specific unique utility granted by 2H spec that is absent from SnB... in the case of chosen it is crippling strikes... not to mention their base toolkit is very good for 2h tank with things like suppression. SM is pretty self explanatory I'm sure, and IB can run 2H and s till have virtually all the utility they have SnB.
As much fun as 2H BO is... it is just bad in comparison to SnB. You miss out on probably the best morale boost in the game, 20% phy damage dealt debuff, and you gain literally nothing good from going 2h. BO also seems really tactic dependent in order to bring utility to a group, so in reality going DPS BO and picking up things like SYG/GS/GYM etc... just totally destroys your group utility which is already barely enough to keep them competitive with Chosen/BG.

2H BO is all about dem crits. If you like bursting unsuspecting squishies in 2 GCDs, play it!

Re: [Tier 4] What class do YOU think I should play?
Try a marauder, the most defensive of the mdps classes

Re: [Tier 4] What class do YOU think I should play?
I am basically the same as you OP. Back in WoW I also played a 2H warrior, and a 2H shaman, so maybe I can give a bit of perspective of the classes I enjoy in WAR.
My two main classes have always been, back on live, and now here on ROR: SM and WL.
I always went for the controversial Khaine spec with a 2H, as I rarely played in groups where WW would come to its full potential. At lvl 40 you will get Wall of Darting Steel, that is a unique 2H "Hold the Line", which deflects damage back to the opponent, but not for anyone else but you. It is neat when you get focus fired up front, but because SM is a selfish class, it doesn't do much to the group.
My other favorite is the WL. Why? Because of its mobility and burst. Pure and simply. If(when!) you get Pounce, together with Charge, you can dictate where to strike, and when to get out of harms way. WL wears medium armor, and is thus not as squishy as the other MDPS. But what really ups their survivabilty is the mobility. I would clearly suggest you try out a WL, and see for yourself! And remember, the pet is a bit buggy, so keybind "attack" and "heel" to easy keys helps, as well as either the addon Loyalpet or Petassist.

Re: [Tier 4] What class do YOU think I should play?
Much appreciated feedback! This is what I was already contemplating. I do enjoy my SM and I think his damage is deceiving! I went WW due to the resist reduction... Going WW atm I can debuff Spirit Res ~ 600 versus only about 400 with ED and while ED is super fun, since im only lvl 34 RR I dont have uber high STR which means I get parried/blocked on atleast 1-2 hits of ED which kinda ruins some of the fun, so more STR will help there (I think im around 700 with a STR pot) as I went full Parry with RR.DyneLarsen wrote:I am basically the same as you OP. Also you get the armor buff (AA) and Protection of Hoeth along with Calming Winds - which means its going to be un-appealing for Caster DPS to try and nuke you as the second 1-2 of their abilities resist and a few DoTs show "Absorb" they will move onto another target, less squishy than you.
But I am open to trying ED come T4 when we can put more points into Heoth and still get ED - which combined with more RR for higher STR allowing me to hit the soft to reduce chance I get parried... I can see it being VERY appealing.
WL is something I have been debating as well. Maybe not even stacking full STR but throwing some armor talis in gear to help bolster that armor... Might make him less squishy than others. Also his burst potential seems extremely high (kinda reminds me of my Enh Shammy as they arent AS tanky but those WW procs with my 2H were DEADLY) I will definitely start working on one today for Kicks and Giggles to see what its all about...
Again, MUCH appreciated Feedback here guys!

*Insert the obligatory answer about how you should play what you find the most fun*
Seriously though:
2H tanky DPS? There are only 2, maybe 3 options:
Black Orc, Chosen, and possibly the Swordmaster.
My personal favorite is the BO:
The 2H BO only really kicks off in T4, though. Now in T3 you're probably better off as DPS SnB.

Re: [Tier 4] What class do YOU think I should play?
You have 5 characters. I suggest you continue to play all 5 of them. Find which builds make each class the most fun for YOU PERSONALLY and stick to that. T4 gets wild and crazy, so you'll be altering your build based on gear/opponents/mood. Which is a good thing!
Personally, I like to have 1 of each archtype. Healer, tank, MDPS, and RDPS. That way, I can switch into whichever type seems to be "lacking" or needed. However, on Order anyways, RDPS is almost never an issue so I scratched that.
Keep all the classes, and lvl them up depending on your mood. Classes change dramatically from tier to tier, so be prepared for what was your favorite class to fall into disfavor from time to time. But that is why we have Alts.
