maguses and engies took too many banked nerfs cos of sorcs and bws performance. That way they lost any meaning. AOE pressure is quite hilarious, ST is decent, support due to all the nerfs is quite meaningless.
You can do well but you need the right circumstances

Their pointblank AOE burst is actually very good (in the rift spec), people just not playing it well.
And yeah, it sucks how Mythic went about with their blanket nerfs that had a minor effect on sorc/bw but a HUGE one on engi/magus.

Yes the Magus PBAoE spec is really solid coz it doeasn't suffer from interupts the way sorcs do. Engies however lacks mobillity due to Lighning Rod and physical mitigration from Blunderbluss Blast.

Nice Guide Peter. I enjoyed reading it. Have yet to find a group that understands what your trying to do for them. Been away so long I'm still getting used to being back in the game. Ive been playing around with spec and the one I seem to have the greatest success at in any battle is rift. The other specs seem to leave you lower dps and a lot squishier. Really makes mdps crazy when they run up to a rift spec magus and start dying really fast wondering what happened....and wh don't worry about them cause if you are using agonizing torrent they cant stealth in and hit you. they'll get popped outta steath before they can attack, so no surprise hit for them.

Looking at this forum we need to really build on providing quality advice. I use change and find mist is very good both defensively and offensively. I use it to block people capping flags and picking up the part this is always the first thing I do in these scenarios. When I use mist offensively its to support the tanks as they push the enemy, I find the little bit of extra dps does help. I feel that rift has a place. But I find that it only works in a group designed to use it whereas single target and AoE and close quarters AoE are more flexible. It is down to play style but we need to be more constructive here.

Fair enough. Just never found mist worth it against enemies who move away. Rift group dependent but it is a group game and good players will appreciate it and tailor group around a good riftie.
My advice is just from my experiences on live/ror so take it as you will! But thanks for feedback.

Very true, this is a group game. Likewise for me all my experience comes from live and ror. I've been more of a single target spec magus that was how I played in live. I am interested in what you use for the close combat AoE burst. I take it you have the surging power tactics and the tactic the increases damage when the enemy is nearby?

Aye mate. Surging power (make sure you have a good amount of base crit for this to work well: it affects surging power, so if you can get that to crit on as many people as possible it will be idela), 15% damage in close range, endless knowledge (if you are not int capped) and the last one is optional (devour energy if AP issues, lasting chaos if group is ap starved, toughness tactic if you are getting focused a lot, instapet/resummon no AP if you are with a group that wants to kill the opposition asap and need your KD/20% dmg up as soon as pos)Koryu199X wrote:Very true, this is a group game.
