Dueling Tournaments

Hello all :) DirtyZ from BRUTAL here. As you guys know, I host biweekly dueling events, Domination. I just wanted to make a post here to ask everyone from the dueling community and people who're interested about the future dueling tournaments. How it should be organized? What the prizes should be? Etc, etc. If you have any thoughts on it, please do say them as they could be implemented.

Constructive Criticism is welcome :D

First and for most, the rules. Now, they should be considerably different from the regular dueling events. Here are a couple of rules i have in mind.

1. Morale 1, 2, 3, and 4 are usable. Resource building (Morale building, career/mechanic resource) is prohibited before the duel.

2. All pots, including stat pots, are welcome except for healing pots and shield/bubble pots during the duel. Of course, AP pots are usable during.

3. Shamans, AM's, Dok, and WP are prohibited from participating in Dueling Tournaments due to various reasons.

4. Chosen/KoTB must have their auras toggled off while spectating so they will not interrupt the combatants.

5. Contestants must be R40 and of any RR.

Obviously, you are to be expected to know these rules. Violation of the rules leads to forfeit of the violator.

Second, the tournament pool. I'm planning to organize it traditionally as brackets but I'm wondering if tournaments should be divided into Melee and Ranged since RDps has an advantaged at putting in ranged dmg (surprise surprise). And sign ups, i'm planning to just use the forum post and have participants give me the name of their toon, rank, RR, and spec (Dps SnB, Dps 2h, SnB Utility, etc) Other solutions are welcome, please do comment :D

And last but not least, PRIZES. Now, I'm content with giving the 1st place winner a 100g. But idk if it is worth it for the winner, and the prizes are coming out of my own pocket soo input on this is especially needed. I'm considering giving the 2nd and 3rd place contestants either gold or talismans. But again, the prizes are coming out of my pocket. And FYI, I have only destro toons so idk if i can just mail the prizes if the winners are order.

Again, all of this is up for debate. I really do hope I can set up dueling tournaments in the future and get people involved and hopefully into a lot of competitive fun :) If you have any suggestions, please do say in the comments.

Sincerely,
DirtyZcurse, Bonelord

I'm interested. Where an what time are these tournaments held?

I agree that melee and ranged should be in different pools. There are melee classes that just can't deal with ranged kiting and those fights will be lop-sided. Even the melee classes that do have ways of dealing with it are still at a pretty sizable disadvantage. The prize thing is tough. You would probably need a co-organizer who is Order and can run the prizes from that end. As far as the prizes go; gold is probably the best option. It's universal. Giving away talismans or items is not really a good idea because not everybody may need them. With gold they can just buy what they want. You should even have a buy-in for this tournament and add all the buy-in money to the prize pool. Like 10g buy-in or whatever. Not so much that people can't afford it and not so little that it's just insignificant. Do a split, like, 60% goes to first place; 25% to second place, 15% to third.

The actual tournament should be double elimination with best of 3 sets. Think of FGC tournaments, if you know what that is. A match is best 2 out of 3. Winner moves on in winners bracket. The loser drops to losers bracket. If you lose a match in losers bracket, you are eliminated from competition. The Grand Finals are the Winner of the winner's bracket vs the Winner of the loser's bracket. If the winner of the winners bracket wins then he wins the tournament. But if the winner of the losers bracket wins the 2/3, he knocks the winner of winners bracket into losers bracket and they play another 2/3 set. Winner wins the tournament. This is the best and most fair way I have seen of running a tournament.

I like the buy-in idea and the FGC tournament concept. And for time and place: it would most likely be held at the same time as the other events for both EU and NA in a PvE area near the RvR lake so we don't interfere with ORvR in the EU or NA primetimes. I have several locations in mind, TM is a great location to duel; right off the Destro WC downhill

And yes, I do think I need a co-organizer from Order side. I'll probably ask some buddies of mine, if not i can always ask fairly big GL's from Order

looking forward to this. i think ranged and melee should be in the same mix (was never a problem on live, and most mdps have a way to catch up)

Awesome!

Would be cool to have different "divisions", Melee, RDPS, Open to all, etc.

Mah WH will be in whatever set he's allowed to be... And maybe 2 that he isn't.

RDps vs WE/WH can go either way but if one catches the other its done deal. But I do plan on making divisions for Melee, Ranged, and Open. Maybe even further to Tank classes, MDps classes, etc. But in Melee and Ranged, Shammy/AM and Dok/WP will never be allowed unless i find a reason for them to participate
