Latency and Disconnects (US)

Over the past week or so I've been getting some really extreme latency and disconnects, particularly playing during the day (I'm GMT -8). Given that the server is in Europe I'm not surprised that I get some latency, but this is hugely unplayable (frequent 10+ second lag spikes, disconnects every 2-30 minutes).

Anything I can do to make the game playable?

I tried doing a traceroute to returnofreckoning.com and get a little packet loss but not huge problems -- about 5-7% at each step, which is odd and I suppose could account for the connectivity issues.

Well the only thing you personally can do is to try out any programs/services that may re-rout you through other datacentres. A lot of sh*t can happen overseas from the US to France.. be it problems with your ISP, any corrupted cables somewhere on the way here, bad routing (there are cases where ppl get routed over Oceania and/or Asia for whatever reasons), or just also problems with the Hostcenter itself. But like said above - your best shot is trying some VPN for now if the problems remain

unfortunately, 5% packetloss is massive. even 1% is notable in games.

the easiest fix is swapping to ethernet cable instead of wireless. harder fixes include fixing your router, removing viruses or latency causing issues on your computer, fixing cable/dsl modem, or upgrading ISP. it can be challenging to diagnose the real issue.

Thanks for the replies all -- I'm pretty sure the problem is not on my end as I only get the issue with this game and occasionally with other games when I happen to be routed through a EU or AU server (Path of Exile, specifically).

I'm using a hardwired connection, have a great router and modem that gets about 100mbps with my ISP. All ISPs have problems, but performancewise mine is about as good as I can get.

That said, someone mentioned in game that it could also be an addon problem. I'm using Enemy, and I really hope that it isn't causing these issues because I like the interface a lot. Makes healing much easier.

I'd be willing to try a VPN -- anyone have any suggestions for a good service? I haven't used one before.

It is also unplayable for me since rr80 was released due to latency and lag issues. I keep logging in and crossing my fingers through...no luck today.

Yea it comes and goes. Putting /reloadui on a macro and hitting every start/end of SC/changing zone seems to help though. But any decently sized ORvR battle and I'm garunteed at least 4 DCs in a night. But if that is the price I have to pay to not be kited by Stinkyweed I will pay it.
