This is my first BSOD since I have wiped my PC clean and reinstalled every little thing with the utmost organization and care. Granted the game is behaving much better. But the core issue persists in strange ways.
I logged in as my kotbs with no issue. A little stuttering, but no black screen. I ran around the burning windmill, with some slight stuttering at first but after a second it was a smooth as butter. I knocked my graphic settings up from balanced to high, and restarted the game. Logged into my IB, located at the T1 RvR Camp in Empire. Immediately I get some decent stuttering. I rotate the camera towards the steam tank- Black Screen..... Recovery. I rapidly open my graphics menu, adjust the graphics back to balanced. Black Screen.... Recovery. Turn back towards the tank- Black Screen..... Emergency Fans go on, Computer restarts.
Noted this is a major improvement in several areas. 1) my driver would never recover. 2) My kotbs seemed playable. 3) When the game finally nuked my PC, my PC actually had the wherewithal to recover and save a error report, which it rarely used to do in this event.
Still the problem see blatantly isolated to this game. I played GTA V for over an hour at high graphics with no issue. I play this game and happen into an issue, my computer goes into failsafe.
I am going to refer to them as 'problem areas', I have encountered two since I have started playing this game about a week abo. Both in T1 Empire. The Chaos Portal near the hell cannons, and the RvR Camp/ Steam Tank. Sometimes the Burning Windmill would act up a bit, but that was very inconsistent. The aforementioned 'problem areas' however, nuke my computer each time I attempt to replicate it, without fail. With the Chaos Portal on my kotbs, I managed to recover and move away from the portal with much stuttering and to-do, and it managed to smooth out from there- and I haven't really had an issue in that area with other characters after the fact. But this is the first time I got to the Steam Tank, this was on my IB, I tried to scale the stairs and thats when the computer issues really started. Ever since then, even after the wipe, I am having issues randomly in this area.
Food for thought, but I am really stumped. I haven't done the memtest yet, but GTA said I was exceeding my vram by a gigabyte and I had no issue playing that game for an hour. I will run it tonight, but again, the issues are really seeming to stem from THIS program.
EDIT:
So After some more experimentation and finagling, I managed to break the crash loop. It also seems to be linked to certain areas, but primarily to anything above balanced quality. Surprisingly enough view distance had no effect. I can dance around with practically no resistance at balanced with high view distance, but the second I load into the game in High Quality, I get random black screens. At this point though, my computer is seemingly able to pull itself out and recover to my desktop even when the GPU stops sending signal to monitor- at which point, WAR.exe was not responding.
I will continue to document this until I work it out, But it seems playable in balanced graphics.
EDIT2:
Well I am starting to achieve some black screens in balanced mode, but I seem to be able to recover back into the game from most of them. I am adjusting my view and running through the forest of Ostland with some stuttering and a black screen flashing every few minutes. Steamtank still occasionally causes random crashing. This sucks, but hell what can you do.

Re: Constant Driver Failure Causing Computer to Crash
BC116 is saying that an attempt to reset the display driver and then recover from a timeout failed.
So what to try is to make sure the game resolution matches your current display settings, and also set it to Not run in full screen. to make sure the game itself is fine, as i suspect it is as you say you run demanding games no problems.
To do this outside of the client you need to go into the user folder and make alterations to an xml settings file
In folder explorer browse into the root of the warhammer client game folder and from in here into /user/. directory
i.e.
Within here will be a UserSettings.xml file.
Open this up within notepad and you should see something similiar to this:-
(Depending on your set-up you may need to right click onto this file and select open with, and select notepad. as vanilla support is open into ie)
The five bits you need to alter are the width and heights of the FullScreen and Windowed settings and change the fullscreen="false"
So if your native desktop display is running at 1360x768 alter both line bits to width="1360" height="768"
Save these changes and try running the launcher again.
Once you have the client running you can then try making the fullscreen back to true.
Give that a shot

Looks like the same Error, I got it this time immediately upon logging into the RvR Camp in T1 after making the changes you recommended. I'm going to keep tweaking and testing.
EDIT:
So I am beginning to suspect there is something occurring between my end and the server. I do not know how those things work, but I have been able to replicate a graphical error which starts to seize up my GPU/Driver and the game client, I will see my desktop after my GPU recovers along with the minimized client which reads "not responding", upon clicking it, It will act like its trying to recover the program and then loads me into my character select screen stating my connection has been closed by the server. (I was online at the time of each instance). I cannot seem to replicate this message anytime I am not getting these strange errors.
I would really like to hear from some support staff on all these issues.

Re: Constant Driver Failure Causing Computer to Crash
Yeah guys, no matter what I do or how I manipulate my settings and configurations- I run into computer breaking issues. Its a damn shame because this was my favorite game throughout college and I have been searching ever since it went down. But alas, something between my system and this game/server cannot mix. I have spent the last 3 days researching, documenting, turning my software and hardware inside out so I can make this old game work. Its not working. I wait with bated breath that someone swoops in and explains away this entire issue, but I think I might end up suffocating.
Re: Constant Driver Failure Causing Computer to Crash
Same problem for me since some days now.
I installed a fresh Win10, cleaned everything....GTX570 with extracooling, checked everything - but getting black screens every few minutes now (unplayable). Also i am getting problems with the login too (chars wont load ingame). I played for months without any problems before (other games are running good). Temperature of the GPU is around 40 degrees celsius.
The blackscreen is total random...it doesnt matter which map/region.

Yeah..
Unfortunately this is an issue that seems to plague a decent number of people. But at the end of the day it is still a minority of players. I have read posts where Staff says that this issue isn't worth their time looking into.
Again, Its a damn shame. I feel like it has to do with their latest patch, because I wasn't having nearly as much trouble a few days ago.

Re: Constant Driver Failure Causing Computer to Crash
I had a similar problem, that I eventually fixed by updating my MB drivers. If you haven't done so. I would suggest trying it. We have very similar system specs.

Re: Constant Driver Failure Causing Computer to Crash
What drivers did you update? I guess I am not too versed on MOBO drivers, I updated my intel chipset, but besides that I am unsure of what other MSI drivers would need to be updated.Karast wrote:I had a similar problem, that I eventually fixed by updating my MB drivers. Re: Constant Driver Failure Causing Computer to Crash
No matter what I do, this game simply will not function. It is Unplayable in every sense of the word, and these issues are only related to this game.
I can only assume that the recoding or whatever has changed since live is simply ineffective with certain cards, but what can you expect from a small recreational team.
Thanks you for the work you've done on reviving this game, sucks that I simply will not be apart of it.
