Yes we're still being ddosed.Caffeine wrote:Just for the sake of clarity: are we still being ddosed or is this some other instability issue?Druin wrote:Server's location has nothing to do with the current issues.
Pretty much always afk or tabbed out.

What problems can't be fixed with upgrading hardware or man-power?Dabbart wrote:Sejanus wrote:Not if the hardware was different, there has to be a way to add funds to upgrade the server to handle the problems it's been facing. Take more people onto the team that can add funds and help you, a patron to help support the server.Dabbart wrote:The Server issues would be the same currently regardless of it's whereabouts I believe. Just the way it goes on a Priv Server...
Unless it isn't a hardware or man-power fault...

Re: Starting up a new server.
im not sure about the specifics of it all, but from what ive heard they cant accept any kind of donations or anything that would give them some sort of "profit" from this. but i have no idea if there might be a loop hole in the legal system in order to donate something. i think that pretty much everyone whos playing again would like to give something to them in order to help out and show appriciation

This is the real world we're talking about, of course there is loopholes.Revec wrote:im not sure about the specifics of it all, but from what ive heard they cant accept any kind of donations or anything that would give them some sort of "profit" from this. but i have no idea if there might be a loop hole in the legal system in order to donate something. i think that pretty much everyone whos playing again would like to give something to them in order to help out and show appriciation

Re: Starting up a new server.
What are the current issues, exactly? (i.e. what is causing all the lag and shutdowns?)
Re: Starting up a new server.
It's not about loopholes. It's the fact that they(the devs/operators of RoR) believe that if they take a strict 0 money PERIOD stance, that it would be far less likely that they will suffer a Cease and Desist action. Which they would be legally required to oblige.
And DDOS attacks drop the biggest corporations. Man-power and Hardware isn't always the answer.

If you want to know why we can't make any profit whatsoever, check one of the hundred threads about donations.Sejanus wrote:This is the real world we're talking about, of course there is loopholes.Revec wrote:im not sure about the specifics of it all, but from what ive heard they cant accept any kind of donations or anything that would give them some sort of "profit" from this. but i have no idea if there might be a loop hole in the legal system in order to donate something. i think that pretty much everyone whos playing again would like to give something to them in order to help out and show appriciation

Re: Starting up a new server.
So non-cash upgrades are classified as "profit"? What if you took on another team member as far as server management goes that contributed their income to the progression of the server, like I'm assuming all the current developers do.Druin wrote:If you want to know why we can't make any profit whatsoever, check one of the hundred threads about donations.Sejanus wrote:This is the real world we're talking about, of course there is loopholes.Revec wrote:im not sure about the specifics of it all, but from what ive heard they cant accept any kind of donations or anything that would give them some sort of "profit" from this. but i have no idea if there might be a loop hole in the legal system in order to donate something. i think that pretty much everyone whos playing again would like to give something to them in order to help out and show appriciation

Re: Starting up a new server.
I don't know a lot about game servers per say, but I do work in the managed and hosted services industry. I'm not sure of the sustained bandwidth needs of a game server, but there are firewalls/appliances with IPS that can prevent a lot of very common DDoS attacks. I'm not sure what type of security appliance (if any) is currently sitting in front of the server. I'm not sure if you have a staff member that has any experience with network security or not. I'm just asking a question and offering to help in whatever way I can. Feel free to shoot me a PM if I can offer any assistance.
