Best way to defend against a DDOS is to first understanding how they work. Which 90% of the population who play this game don't. How many DDOS threads do we need?

Whitelist registered users IP addresses - deny all other connections to the game server.
This would require all users sending in their IPs - imo this is well-worth the time and effort.

Most of the users have static IP addresses - you can also add safe IP ranges. List should be built step by step.
