Ziery there! Yes this is my first post. So I guess this could also act like a introduction... anyway!
DDoS is a big issue these days and as its cheap and affordable it can go on for months...
Last years I read an excellent post on the subject because I have had to deal with similar shits for one my client.

This post is very informative and explains what DDoS is and how it stresses hardwares in general
Now In our case the person doing DDoS is ignorant in many many ways... Especially regarding the law. He will learn his lesson the hard way. The amount of money he invests in DDoS'ing a small community just to get a kick of it and feel on the top of his lonely world full of anger (most likely) is going to be ridiculously cheap compare to what the hosting company could ask as damages, liabilities and other business transaction interferences.
Finally this community should not worry too much about it. "it will never kill the server population" because the game already shut down once and only the ABSOLUTE WAAAGH fans are still playing and putting efforts on RoR. With that In mind guys just be patient and let the storm pass.

if it is known that it makes one person, the best way to come up with a trap, and be done with him than to invent ingenious defenses.mikke wrote:Close all server ports, build up named VPN session for players via ISP service. Than DDOSers would be ISP pain )
Re: Idea for DDOS defend - use VPN?
How to trap a ddoser? Why, with an Antonio Banderas blow-up doll, of course.

Then we just hit him with a hammer or something.

Re: Idea for DDOS defend - use VPN?
It is possible to create multi-layer loging system so 1st step would be some cloud based server and only connection forward will get access to RoR login server ? so DDoS hit external server not Your hardware?
