WH-Pistol or Sword First

Been playing a WH, only in T2, and when I get the option from a quest or influence reward for a gun and a sword I am not sure what to pick first. I understand keeping them both as good as possible but there are times where not sure when to pick one over the others. Say when my sword is better, higher level and rarity, then my pistol and a reward would be an upgrade to both do I keep them on par with one another or take sword every time?

For Dual wielding:

The main hand attacks every time. The 2nd only has a % chance to attack on Auto Attacks. So, you want high DPS/low attack speed on your main hand(too speed up your auto attack), and high DPS on your pistol, since it wont hit as often.

With this in mind, if you are having to choose, get your Sword first. But you should be able to have a decent pistol most of the time. Stats/tali slot are key here.

Do execution abilities scale of pistol or sword? I am guessing pistols but want to make sure

They "scale" based off of your lvl and ranks into mastery tree's. They take the DPS of the Pistol though, not the Sword, of this I am 99% certain.

That is not true. Both weapons are relevant for the outgoing damage.

Just a reminder from another thread...

Dabbart wrote:Uh... The DPS on the weapons only affect your auto-attack damage. So it doesn't matter which you get for Ability damage, but I would say go for the Sword. 2 reasons

1. I prefer the Eternal Pistol for the parry. But to each their own.
2. Dual wielding gives a % chance for your off-hand to hit on each attack. The Attack speed on your offhand is irrelevant, so the theory goes that you want a fast attacking weapon in your main hand to get as many offhand attacks as possible, but your primary DPS should be in main hand since that will attack with every auto attack tick.

Hope that helps!
ability's damage before mitigation = base value + (main hand weapon dps value + 0.45 x off-hand weapon dps value + damage bonus) x effective cast time

(effective cast time is a multiplier. Its value depends on the ability being used.)

that is the ability damage formula for melee abilities. know what you are saying before you post please.

PS: that is formula confirmed by dev team that is used in RoR
Kesr

I do remember that. And I could be entirely wrong/misremembering, but I believe that is the formula for a melee attack/ability. For a ranged based attack(IE most executions), you don't use the Sword dps. Keep in mind, original WH(from Live Beta) didn't AA with his Pistol, and utilized BS for damage.

Once the server pops back I'll test it real quick. But judging from viewtopic.php?f=75&t=13150&p=143752&hilit=Azarael It looks like I might be wrong, since the executions are Parried not Dodged.

Edit. Hmmm... viewtopic.php?f=8&t=971&hilit=damage+calculation Kinda goes to say that I was wrong. I see nothing mentioned about rang vs. 5ft DPS differences for Dual Wield. So one can assume that there is none. Pity I can't just login and test it real quick...
