Re: Where are you from?
I was stationed there from 88/90 , It was a great city . I was 18 when I got stationed at McNair Barracks and I had the time of my life in that city. I really want to visit Berlin again and see more of the old East Berlin side of the city. I only went to the East a few times because it was a pain in the butt to get the pass.Bowldancer wrote:Berlin

Ya , I went to Hohenfels in 02. I was there for 3 weeks as a trainer to help prepare the 173 Airborne for their deployment to Iraq. A guy I went over with also was in West Berlin and He was able to get a pass to go to Berlin with a few guys he knew that where still stationed in Germany. He told me almost all the military Building were gone or converted. I wasn't able to go but I did party for 2 days in Nuremberg! I really wanted to go hit the Big Edan on the Kudam and also see if a dive club called the Studio 78 that was near the base across from the canal was still there.Arbich wrote:Germany/Berlin

I did go to a Soviet War Memorial in East Berlin. It was part of the East Berlin tour that the Army gave in the Headstart program. It was a program that you had to go through to learn German customs and language and how to get around the city. There was a alot of Soviet soilders standing in ranks on a platform that lead down to the walkway which lead to the Mother Russia Monument and Tombs. It was my first time being up close to my "Enemy". They looked at us and we looked at them as we passed. I asked the group that I was part of if we should stop and Salute. The Sgt said ya , so we stopped and Saluted them. A senior soilder in their group put them at attention and the returned the salute. That was one of the best moments I had during my Army Career.

Big Eden is shut down, as far as I know. I was there once almost 15 years ago, when I still not lived in Berlin (88/90 I was in Kindergarten in East germany^^). If you like electronic music (I am not that great fan), simple go to Berlin S-Bahn Station Warschauer Straße and you will find enough clubs thats suits you.
War memorial at treptower park is great at 09.05.(capitulation of nazi-germany). Over the day the russians in berlin put flowers all over the hill where the statue of the soviel soldier with the child in his arms is (looks really impressive). In the evening germans and russians celebrate together the defeat of nazi-germany with (a lot of) beer and live-music.
