Re: Advice chat

I never seen the need to make people speak specific languages. People know I only speak English if they need to communicate with me they will use English. Other than that I don't mind, but that's up to the staff.
Just the thought of ignoramuses being their typical selves and ridiculing people in chat for speaking their own language really gets on my nerves. More so when they need help and a person comes along and uses a second language to help their dumb ungrateful asses.
Worth weighing these things up, know what I'm saying?
I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but it was a major gripe for me on official server.

Edit: Just thought also is this really a priority? Really? I'm feeling very disappointed by this thread. Not sure if its a legitimate question or an attempt to bring the outside world (the one we play this game to escape btw) into the game in a divisive manner. I really hope that isn't it.

I hope the chat between factions remains.

Priority? Maybe not but its a bit rude to speak a language most of the server can't understand. Especially when there just chatting along in a public channel like advice. English is considered the universal language on gaming servers and if I can adjust speaking it why couldn't you? If the person has a problem, fine, but having long conversations as seen in chat are quite the opposite of that. And to point something out: You typ in english here on the forums, everyone else is besides in topics ment for folks speaking a certain language. That you accept as normal, why not ingame as well?

Its not about ridiculing but about creating a community in wich everyone can participate despite their place and language of origin.

That's the thing Kragg Russian speakers understand this and for all we know they could addressing a friend whose English really isn't up to scratch. Should they just not talk to the guy for fear of upsetting people? Why is this only a problem for the Russian language? You know I have seen people in advice actually ask what 'Oui' means after seeing French people converse in advice.
I know the very basics of a few languages and I use the opportunity to learn new words myself (especially swear words), I don't get all paranoid or upset because I don't understand what's being said.
I'm kind of old enough to remember a time when you didn't have any opportunity to speak with people in other countries unless you had a penpal or some ****. People these days don't really recognize a good opportunity when it's staring them right in the face.
Of course this is just my opinion, and of course opinions are a bit like assholes - we all have one.

I think it's mostly the cyrillic letters. Even if you don't speak a specific language very well, most people can guess what is meant when it's written in latin letters.
Also there seems to be a problem with the client UI as well, as cyrillic names are not displayed correctly. Let's hope this doesn't give a problem with the /assist function later :D

Valid points, the cyrillics is awkward for the reasons you stated. I can't mail free loots also : ]

I think people should stick to English on the public advice. And use /whisper when talking to friends in their native languages. Is what I do. Highjacking the advice with various mother tongues, not understood my the majority of players, is quite a bit rude. You don´t have to help other players/friends by sending lengthy messages in advice... do it in private.
