1. Make a Black Guard friend.
2. Tell him to equip shield.
3. Profit.

My first piece of advice is that DoK gets a lot more fun past level 20, when your group heals get stronger. Before that point the class can sometimes feel a little underpowered as heals go so don't despair if you're feeling squishy or like your heals aren't strong enough.

You'll eventually want to use armor/toughness talimans but at low levels willpower is actually better if you want to see better heal numbers, just keep in mind that it will make you a bit squishier so try to stay in backline to avoid getting focused by mdps. Your Discipline tactic is helpful as well.

Keep your detaunt handy, remember that your cleanse either cleanses your group or you but not both so be choosy since it has a cool down (i tend to use mine on my group more often), and there is a group shield in the healing tree that is very useful as well. Playing DoK well is just as much about cleansing and shielding as it is healing, the more incoming damage you can negate the easier healing will be.
