They que for SCs, sit around for 20 min for 1 pop, then they get into an SC, and gte facerolled while they watch 5 tanks in that SC NOT use guard.footpatrol2 wrote:Gate your also making the assumption that the guard mechanic is a major reason for the drop in population numbers on the server.
I think you are wrong in this assumption. (my opinion)
There are many many reasons on why there has been a drop in population numbers and I don't think a major reason for that is the guard mechanic.
I have TWO friends in the last 2 weeks who have quit. A WE/Sorc player and a Mara.
When we coorindate play times, ROR has some of the most fun pvp. When we cannot all play at the same time, they cannot get tanks to guard them to save their lives, and ROR has some of the worst PVP if you are in that situation.
I know there are many other factors that lead to people leaving. I can tell you that is ONE reason I quit a year ago. I got my Chosen fully geared. Played a Mara, never got guard, got nuked in RVR and SCs, since I play NA time had a VERY hard time finding a group of guys who would consistently be on and willing to guard. Got bored. Quit.
Now ONE aspect of that was that I geared out my main and was bored on him so I rolled an alt. But I can tell you, I had a BLAST leveling the Mara and didnt have much issues until around T3 where the increase in damage classes start to get, which creates a TON of burst damage, coupled with tanks not using guard consistently.... It wasnt fun.
ROR is a great game for coordinated PVP. If you are a casual or semi-casual player, especially in NA time, and you want to get on for 20-30 min and just have some fun... you likely wont have fun unless you are plugged into a big group of players who all play during the same time you do, and you can say "hey anyone up for SCs" and get 10 people that all msg you saying lets make a group. Or if you have good group of guys who always log in and play with you... Then it can be a ton of fun.
There is a HUGE population, that are casual/semi-casual and I guess I have answered my own question I posed to Magicthighs over a year ago. "What is the target audience of ROR".... Reading the responses in this thread. This game is catering and targeting the "hard touch" only players who are under the impression that just because you dont have a group to play with, that means you are bad and dont understand the mechanics of WAR/ROR.
So at this point, there is no desire for me to continue to try and talk about this, DEVs are close minded towards making this a better game for all players. The player base is close minded to any changes from Live, and its very obvious to me now, that people dont want change, they just want to relive LIVE days for a while, when they get bored they take their group of friends, swap to the other side, level new characters, that will suffice for the "core" of ROR players for likely a while, but this server (unfortunately) will never have a much larger player base - which it could have - if some of the mechanics were made so that "group play" wasnt the only way to play the game.
Guard is at the core of combat. It is likely the #1 biggest advantage I see premade groups have over PUG groups. The 2nd would be how many healers are there - which you cant address that.
I have 4 tanks: Knight/SM/Chosen/BG and play them all extensively and center my character around guard. I know how it works, I know how to use it in both PUG groups, premade SCs and RVR. Its not a "hard" mechanic but its not FUN and from my experience, it is ONE reason players have left the game and will continue to do so - because this game can only be reliably played with a group of people, which makes your "fun" subject to "if you can get other people to play AND do their job" - of which, sometimes people find that job boring - which is why you see so many tanks in PUG SCs and PUG Warbands NOT using guard. Not because they dont know HOW to use it, but because its not their idea of FUN. Its not my idea of FUN either, and I love tanks. The IDEA of "mitigating damage for your party" is what a tanks job should be, of which, out of the tanks entire "kit" too much of their job revolves around 1 boring/passive mechanic that forces the tank to follow a person around like a "guard dog" rather than what "tanking" involves in MOST other games - a front line "damage sponge" who buffs/debuffs/controls and mitigates damage for his PARTY.
This is the last I will post of this. Since its clear that this will never change.

Re: DPS spec tank/healer Hypocrisy
Ya man, im over it. It just sucks because this game offers so much... Just needs some tweaks to it, and it could really be a rock solid game... Im afraid that when games like Chamelot Unchained or Crowfall finally come out, Or heck even a game like Ashes of Creation, there are several in development that look really promising and my fear is that will be a major nail in the ROR coffin...lilsabin wrote: Dood , plz , just stop , loool... let them go back and read the entire post , and if they still dont understand , well , we cant cure "retardness" can we ? you repeated your idea 5 times in this post ( i have counted them) . As Daknallbomb said previous page, there are several issues with ROR. I completely agree. Its a long list of things that could be improved... If they dont, I hope I am wrong, but I expect mass fallout from this game as all the current players get bored, lack of new players coming to the game, and more competition in the MMO marketplace... Id like to see ROR flourish, but "remaking Live" wont do that... there is a reason LIVE died... Actually many reasons.

Invest more your effort and time in pve. I finished games Drakensang what is RPG any 6 times because there was always something what I missed. With your editor and all this large world and of course with your skills can make game much interesing if from time to time you add some new quest where can get a lot of gold or any very rare iteam. Don't must say players you do that, they must alone find this. For example must do 3 quests to finally open an another hidden quest where they can get an iteam with any cool appearance which haven't nobody else or any potion which reduce CD to 0.
Re: DPS spec tank/healer Hypocrisy
Dood , we dont even have any dungeon and some quest have a hero boss , wich required lots of people to kill it ( if u wanna do it properly) , i had one character on wich i focused on PVE first ( to explore the game) , but i had to abandon , because every quest chain will end up with a "hero" boss fight , and i needed an almost 6 man to do it ... 3 would have been okay . But trying to fin 6 person for a "CHAIN QUEST" boss , GOOD LUCK .Kali14 wrote:Invest more your effort and time in pve. Re: DPS spec tank/healer Hypocrisy
I dont think PVE is the answer. The "target audience" of ROR isnt PVE players. Sure PVE is a cool "addon" they can work on, but it isnt going to make "the main attraction (PVP)" better.Kali14 wrote:Invest more your effort and time in pve. What they need to do is fix RVR as that is the "pinnacle" of this game. Start looking at what works, what doesnt work, why do people dislike it and start focusing on giving incentive to the types of play they want to encourage.
Right now, RVR is more seflish and competition between parties in warbands (due to things like supplies on giving credit to the party, not warband) and its very 6 man friendly, as well as very little "benefits" in defending BOs. Due to the loot system (IMO) you see zergs more and more common because its almost pure RNG system, so more chances = higher chance at gear. Maybe this is what they want, but it seems to not be working.
PVE would be a small "carrot" as far as a time suck for people to do, but it wont keep people invested in the game long term.

Re: DPS spec tank/healer Hypocrisy
Very true. I threw out the idea a year or two ago of having a "reverse" AAO. So this would mean 1 side gets AAO and the other has a -AAO. This alone (though) wont fix zergs because with the announcement of compression, people care less about renown than they do getting bags. Which all leads me back to my other thread about making RVR a currency grind in which you can modify currency drop by AAO. (So 400% AAO makes currency 4x more likely to drop where as -400 AAO would make it 1/4th as likely to drop)Daknallbomb wrote:th3gatekeeper wrote:I dont think PVE is the answer. What this does is even further promotes "even fights" especially because people will care less about "locks" than they do now - because there wouldnt be an item you win, just RVR currency to save up and buy pieces.

Re: DPS spec tank/healer Hypocrisy
What bags you will get on zerging side? More ppl less chances to win. Most need just gold bags and we lock zones after many hours so be in zerging side while we will have rr wipe is nothing fun for me...
More problem is that ppl can swich sides all the time, so when you wipe at keep attack ppl with you swich side and fight against you, thats bad because ppl are scare to attack the keep and we have boring few hours BO's fight not who will win but who will wipe and lose players to opposite side.
Problem is that we don't gets bags for keep only and at keep. Keep was most balanced element, because it's easier to def at keep against more players then at field. Now we have to fight at field and loose against zerg for contri to bags so ppl leave, also it's boring to play that way for many hours. At old system ppl join keep def because it's was fast and you hade chance to win bag for it. Now even if win keep you will need to play 1-2 hours to get bag so not worth to join the keep for many ppl.

Re: DPS spec tank/healer Hypocrisy
We have a Witch hunter soloing and showering in gold and purple bags. If you guys think that zerging you will ever get a bag, I have bad news.
So far I can tell that roaming in small groups, get tons of kills and defending BOs will get you laid.
The new system works way better than the old one, way less random than before. Conqueror medals are easy to farm. Merc/Anni totally doable and competitive. And before you start with the whining, I work, go to the gym, have kids and a pretty enjoyable social life. If you need a group of friends to help you, start looking. When I arrived here I knew no one. Now I have a steady gang of inbred hillbillies with whom I have 2 hours fun each day, when possible.
