Re: Great job
4500 is nice number, but - https://vk.com/returnofreckoning?w=wall-76975839_52184 this voting link from 25th of march, 2017, and according to it there are 96 active players, 104 not so active, 126 occasional server visitors and 160 inactive, who left project. Maybe, not everyone, maybe. But group can't be cleared from just inactive people, who a re twink accounts. Or those, who joined - and forgot, didn't like, or whatever. And most times these people ale helping each other, or blaming each other. And not trying to sell gold or accounts to each other (who needs it in fact, gold is not so big problem, as exp, and high rr, which is bought but not gained gives no advantage at all; and buying r40-rr15 chars is nonsence)wargrimnir wrote:Seems like it would be just a little late for that, don't you think? It's been up and running for a couple of years, they've probably accumulated all 4500 RU players that are active on VK. Not to mention, it just leaves the same collective of people continuing to do what they do, and now free once again to sell accounts and gold as they're no longer under our watchful eye. Why would we concede to that outcome? Seems a bit strange to me.ergreen wrote: The main reason is that this group has the name of server? From my point its not a fangirl thing, or howling with the wolves or enjoy rasing against authorities just for the fun of it. There much better ways i could spend my saturday as to fight here. Its for justice and for the general atmosphere in this game we all love or have passion for. Bans for the wrong reasons will spread fear and thats not good. Just want to point this out.
Appreciate that you are still reading and writing and considering tho.

Im just trying to show how things can be written or said and be used out of context and yea i completely understand why stuff said there wouldnt be held to the same standard however how many bans have been tossed out because of private messages or things said in a chat channel similar to the chat channels staff use ? double standards.wargrimnir wrote:
Also, being in the staff chat is a privilege, it's also private from the outside world, and messages do disappear after about 10 days. We talk and joke and say things that certainly would not be said in public channels. Alluding that something said there would be held to the same standard as publicly on the forums is a little silly. But anything to make your point right?
There was a time when i stuck up for staff making it clear what they do is done in there free time and from the good of there heart, as time has gone by things have changed for the worse, and its disappointing to see it get this far.

Re: Great job
A few thoughts that occurred to me on this particular issue. First of all, I will admit don't speak Russian.
But: nobody I have seen in support of Teinhala so far has explicitly denied/disputed that a joke was made somehow related to real money transfers in the game. They rather stressed that "it was only a joke".
Is that really an excuse though? This whole project's existence relies on the lack of exactly that, and even an implication could result in it being shut down. Feel free to look up the countless posts or even threads (usually those asking if/how they can make donations) on the subject, there is certainly no shortage of them. It should be very clear to anyone who's been here for a few months that this is a deadly serious issue and certainly no joking matter. It is like making a joke about a bomb at an airport: it may be that your buddies think it's hilarious, it may even be a meme, but in that context there is a very real implication of that subject and you really should not be surprised when there are consequences for your little joke. I have to say that if that joke was really about account buying (which, again, nobody really disputed), it was well beyond poor taste, even if that particular community is unwilling to recognise how dangerous it is. Especially coming from a moderator, which was apparently even allowed to escalate.
Does it warrant banning though? Well, it has been mentioned that account selling has been a problem on the site in question, so it appears there is a history of sanctions related to that very thing (making the joke even more unwise to be honest).
It's true that it was on a different site, not overseen by the RoR staff. But the reputation of a project is not made on their own website alone, and while they can't moderate other sites, what they can do is to take a strong stance against questionable ones by removing access to the RoR project to the people responsible. It's a statement that such behavior is not tolerated on this project, regardless of what claims those people may be making in a place beyond RoR's control.
And finally, while it may be that there is something in the claims of bias from the Russian community GM Alena, is that the only possibility? A few things to keep in mind here:
The server had a large Russian community for quite a while, to the point even a specific Russian-language channel was created. But I remember that for a very long time the Russian community and chat was not moderated at all; in fact, there were occasionally pretty strong complaints about what goes on in the /8 channel. Then Alena was made GM/moderator, and in a fairly short time where was an attack on their person from some members of the Russian community, with all kinds of allegations of bias and unfairness, asking (or rather, demanding) their removal as the Russian channel-community moderator.
Perhaps that was true, but at this point I'll call people's attention to the ban appeals forum. We recently even had a thread speaking about the kind of "appeals" that appear there: A lot of them outright admit that they broke the rules, but then either plead for a reduced sentence or just go right to insulting, often even openly, the whole staff for persecuting them for breaking the rules and quite often they even end the thread with some manner of insult or even threat. All in all, very few people seem to show any remorse when they are caught. This is the tip of the proverbial iceberg, but it shows one thing quite clearly, that if people are caught in behavior that is considered unacceptable in gaming in general and certainly against the rules of this server as well, many of them rather feel offended/insulted and that they are treated unfairly. And I'll stop beating around the bush here: this is exactly the manner those members of the Russian community act. Perhaps it is justified and their GM is biased against them, but it seems more likely at this point that they have grown accustomed to not being moderated at all and having some measure of safety in speaking a language most server staff members can't even read, let alone speak... and then when they found themselves with same moderation standards applied to them as the rest of the server, some of them equally felt offended and that they were treated unfairly, and blamed the GM responsible for their alleged "bias". They most certainly say this very thing, displaying what seems a mob behavior, trying to pressure the staff into yielding to their demands by sheer numbers/show of force.

Re: Great job
Oh dear someone with a fanclub got banned. Well it was going to happen sooner or later. Funny how those that talk of justice and atmosphere have never mentioned others getting bans for any reason but as soon as one of their mates gets a ban its crys for 'justice!!!!'.
Seriously though how many idiots have been banned and then used the threat of Im emailing EA/GW. Money changing hands over the game is exactly what these dicks are looking for.
Compared to most private servers Ive played on the GMs keep the public channels free from the usual of societies rejects you get there.

Re: Great job
How many times do you think a legitimately private message has been used as evidence in a ban? Is it a statistically significant portion of our bans? Are you reaaaaaaally reaching for anything because you have personal issues with staff members? I could give you a glimpse of how many bans we haven't made public. The number that we've used a private message as evidence in are incredibly small, and likely are related to the direct harassment of another player. Which is precisely what should happen, no?Morf wrote:Im just trying to show how things can be written or said and be used out of context and yea i completely understand why stuff said there wouldnt be held to the same standard however how many bans have been tossed out because of private messages or things said in a chat channel similar to the chat channels staff use ? double standards.wargrimnir wrote:

When, where and in which universe? Im here for quite some time now, im active in playing and comunicating with others.Morf wrote:... as time has gone by things have changed for the worse, and its disappointing to see it get this far.

Over the time i had talks and interaction with nearly every staff member out there, either as a co-leader of our guild or as a private person and player, i also try to help wherever i can, be it by writing ingame text quests (kegs end) or doing events with others. I NEVER EVER had at any point in that long time the feeling of being treated like an inferior or that i should treat someone of the staff like royality. Must be another game seemingly youre talking about.
"Respect goes both ways" you said... perhaps trying to think over these words for a second would explain some things people often are accusing the staff off. There are rules quite easy to understand and to follow on this server, not one of them hindering anyones joy of participating in this project. The generalisation of such remarks as the above is neither justified nor fair.
