I really did like my Shaman a lot because the lifetap felt like I had to really pay attention to the mechanic portion but I was watching and you mostly just sit at 5 points the entire time. Any tips?
Since I was mostly healing the entire game I really only had Red points, which can be somewhat useful once you're at 4-5 since you can then, Ere we go (ele damage buff) Sticky Feetz (target elemental resist debuff) and then insta cast or fast cast spam Brain Bursta and theres a bunch of other tools to make yourself useful as a buffer/debuffer while also pumping out dots/aoe heal/st heals. Once you have 4-5 Yellow points (say before a fight you pre-dot some enemies to build yel mechanic), you can fast cast / insta cast AoE heal (similar effect as if you were using focused mind M2).
My normal heal rotation is pre-hot, absorb bubble, shrug it off.. cleanse if needed (green cleanin tactic for 3 HoTs), AoE heal if needed. Then attack/debuff enemy targets when necessary.
Totom and some other Shams and AM's (Orisham and Rioz, Healss) all do some wicked stuff out in the lakes and in SC's doing a sort of hybrid dps/heal build. I've hardly tried hyrid builds/spec so I don't really know what direction to point you in there.. but it is possible and I believe they still use lifetap and mechanic.
