Choosing a class - Order/tank

Hello all, I am a new player and have never played before. I always wanted to play this game but was always too busy on that other MMO.

Anyway, I thought now would be a great time to give this a go and I'm very excited. I've been keeping an eye on the faction distribution and it appears that Order are under populated so I was going to roll Order. Could someone please confirm that?

I was also thinking of playing a tank class. Could someone confirm whether tanks are in short supply? They usually are in other MMOs.

I've been reading a lot on the forums and it seems that the community is divided on the tier ranking for tanks, which suggests to me that they're quite balanced.

I would like to play one which isn't too painful for solo levelling, good for dungeon tanking and holds its own in solo PvP and small group PvP. I was leaning towards IB, is that a solid choice? Are any of the others stronger?

IB = good mix of damage and survivability, very strong solo class, very good utility, best duo tank

KOTBS = toughest on Order, very good utility, overall best tank in game for group, least damage

SM = best DPS tank on Order, not as much defenses, more of an offensive tank, always has a spot in group play and synergises very well with spiritdamage classes

In regards to Dungeons, any of the 3 can perform as a main tank in current stage of game - but KOTBS can not be an offensive tank. KOTBS AoE auras probably help maintain aggro on multiple adds (sorta like Paladin was king of aoe trash)

If you're coming from WoW, what sort of tanks did you like there? Then I can recommend most similar here in WAR.

Thanks for the quick response, it's given me some food for thought.

I have never actually played a tank in any game, which is why I am keen to try one. I almost always main a healer and occasionally a dps class. So although I understand the fundamentals of tanking through end game raid content, I am effectively a clean slate.

I was looking at some videos of SM and they look fun. So it sounds like SM is more effective for solo levelling and small scale PvP? I feel like that is what I will spend more time doing.

Also, will I be able to find dungeon groups quickly as a tank?

For solo play ib all the way, and there is only 1dungeon atm and its not mandatory to do it.

Just roll a Knight, they are best in general and have greatest utility by just standing around. Other tanks just cannot compare with amount of utility a knight brings.

KOTBS = Best Support
SM = Best DPS
IB = Best Solo

All are solid choices

IB is a dwarf which is overall great.
Get a dwarven name and you can join one of the longest running guilds on this server.

Rolling as a tank, playing well and getting your name recognizable will get you into groups instantly. Likewise, it will work against you if you are know for being a bad tank
