Launcher/updater considered a virus? Registry problem?

Post#1 » Mon Sep 24, 2018 4:53 pm

Yesterday 23/9 I had to update my launcher. Not a problem.
Today 24/9 I clicked the launcher and W10 said: No, it's an unwanted program or virus. I had no time to read it properly, cause w10 just showed the message and deleted the launcher. No problem I thought, update it again and ffs!

Error Downloading updater:
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): Operation did not complete successfully because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software
at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfo startInfo)
at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start()
at RoRUpdater.MainWindow.gy3MwXQNt3w1CDbjGc(Object )
at RoRUpdater.MainWindow.tYB114Sxk(Object , DownloadDataCompletedEventArgs )

It installs a faulty launcher, which gets deleted right away when I click it(right or left) the error 4005 is a registry error , I believe...
So any solutions?

Very good, but that isn't helping, cause it's the updater that gives me the error.
To avoid more of these "solutions"
Yes I run it as Admin even tried adding it to the registry by hand.

Solved it. Uploaded files to cloud, deleted RoR, restarted, downed RoR from cloud. Got the same faulty launcher, Deleted RoR Exept faulty launcher which I added again by hand,reboot,downed RoR again, put the handcrafted launcher carefully in place(without mouse cause that was deleting the whole file for some reason) reboot and it works! Yes, yes happy Gobbos now!

WIndows defender flags it as a virus, just click the notification> Allow the threat and then restore.

As Raga said, it's something called a "false positive". Happens with a plethora of 3rd party/shady/non-professional pieces of software and code, it's harmless.
