Looking for new player class recommendation

Hi,

Title says it all - I played Warhammer at release (Years ago) and haven't touched it since.

I have no preference towards any class. I am a very casual player and looking for a class that will be relatively easy to learn and useful in a variety of settings (Solo, group, etc.). Currently I know no one on RoR so will probably be alone initially.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Here is some information which might help your decision making

Destro

Order
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=29364&hilit=tup+order+pug+guide

Somethings have been tweaked over time, and order is older guide but most of it still rings true.

To be honest you haven't given enough information as you say you have no preference or timezone also helps.

so which realm? some classes are better solo, others better group.

If you want a casual tank, then knight or chosen is good choice for you to learn on as it is more forgiving than a blackguard/ironbreaker/sm/bork.

as for MDPS, casual, solo can work if you pick and chose fights wisely ... stealth class is more ideal for this Witch hunter or witch elf. White lion or Mara is okay choice for pull and gank. Choppa and slayer you will die alot without guard/pocket healer.

as for Rdps, casual... Engi is best pick for solo (keg self healing, snipe = range, and can do okay aoe) Magi dont have the same healing but similar style/range.
BW/Sorcs can do good ST/aoe (but need guard/pocket healer for more efficency)
SH is very good roam/kiter, SW is ok for casual pew pew.

Healers
alot of players will hate you for going dps healer, but play whats fun to you and baddies will blame others for their shortcomings anyways no matter what you do. (That being said some dps healers are late bloomers, others start young though)
Solo healing is not rewarding in orvr, unless you join pug warbands / groups etc... or Scenarios... healing is usually the better path to leveling (easier, can tend to get away with worse gear)
The one class for solo heal dps, is Archmage... it is a pug killer, its strong t1-t4... dot people up, out heal them, great mobility. Shaman is a bit behind archmage... but still similar style.

Dps dok/wp are melee (need guard for more efficency)
Dps zealot/rp generally needs high rr good gear to be worthwhile
in T1 Dok/WP are trash in comparison but become great aoe healer at higher level/gear.

Healwise
Dok/WP are solid, less mobile good aoe heals
Zealot/RP are well rounded, a bit more mobile/versatile healers
Am/Shaman even more kite/mobile friendly healer.

For casual solo play imo is not bad choices to begin with if you know what you are getting into
knight/chosen
WH/Welf
Engi/Squig Herder
AM/Shaman

in 6 man, knight chosen still effective and also in large scale too
WH/Welf can still be effective in 6 man, less so at large scale in comparison to others.
Engi is less effective at 6 man, but can be effective in large scale.
Squig herder is effective at 6 man, but less effective at large scale in comparsion to others.
in Heal spec Am/Shaman is effective at 6 man, very niche at larger scale better than no healer, can still do things.

Bigger advice besides finding the style/class and realm that suits you... is using add on's and fixing UI, or using a premade UI (instead of the horrible WHO default user interface)

anyways good luck finding what you are looking for... and remember some things are late bloomers (needs certain combo of abilities /tactics/gear before it really gets going)

Thanks for the great reply.

After thinking about things I decided to go with a Zealot to start. I really appreciate the help!

Guess I'll start out by trying to find a decent UI.

your welcome mate

Zealot is a good choice, good at low rank good at high rank, good small, good large, can also solo ok as dps at high level. Very versatile solid class. good pve, good sc, good orvr.

as for UI's... not sure what is the best as each person has their own taste etc

viewtopic.php?f=66&t=6371&hilit=viny+ui

this topic would probably be worth reading for a UI i heard positive feedback about.

After UI is sorted, adjust some keybinds maybe to make it even easier for you and you will be well on your way.

At low level zealot really good with flash heals (on the move) and throw hots out to group, at lvl 20 (or before if they've moved it (already have all healers lvl 40 now) but usually at lvl 20 is when you got your group heal which makes things a little easier as healer.

Can I play this game as a human male barbarian warrior type character actually?

Our Barbarians are the Marauders, yes. In the German version, their name actually was "Chaosbarbarian".
