This one seems to be an unchecked one (runtime error) that takes down the whole process. Is not possible to secure the main loop/thread so that if it crashes, the error is catched, logged and rethrown? I guess it would take a thread-safe DB connection a part from the main's process one. It wont solve the problem, you still have to let it go down, but at least you got something to start with. Inmediately after handling the error, it's quite useful dumping an snapshot of the heap into a file too.
I guess you already though in this. I don't even know if it's possible in C++/C#, I'm thinking in Java while I write this.
