So today I decided to pick up and play my first rdps class ever after getting a bq drop for the class but I know nothing about it and never touched it on live so I wanted to come here and get some advice/pro tips on how to do well with such a position dependent class I know a few things such as that it's acctuly a rather powerful class and not a complete glass cannon like sorc or bw
I remember something such as when in doubt on which horror to use just spawn a pink horror as the armor debuff is pretty great

Re: Looking for some advice on how to play magus
if you see me in game (Voidmaster) (i'll give you an inside tip on how to be effective while in a group and be a Bat out of hell with the Dots)
and the Pic I know that deaths are a lot but back in live i spec'd in toughness so that i can be up front and personal on Path of Daemonology (AOE)tree and get a guard Mainly i loved being the CC of the group and see the red fall back cause the magus is not dying lol. That was my play style and still carried it over. Although there are many different play styles that everyone knows of but i can show you my veiws on why this playstyle is my personal Fav and aslo show you why its the best way for Groups in ORVR 8)

Re: Looking for some advice on how to play magus
Baleful Transmogrification seems to be your signature damage ability in Tier one; debuffing for Rend Winds isn't worth it atm so just avoid casting Glean Magic. BT is quite mana heavy though, and with your primary aoe abilities Infernal Blast, and Demonic Leash these abilities will chew through all your ap. Of course when there are no hoards to aoe spam Flickering Red Fire; saving Violet Fire for a spike and hopefully a kill.
The challenge comes from the 20% damage near pet class mechanic. It's difficult to stay mobile and retain the pet bonus. Scenarios aren't keep sieges you want to be able to re-position. Remember to peel melee dps off healers with Demonic Maw.

Re: Looking for some advice on how to play magus
I'd advise you to steer clear of taking advice from Voidmaster. He is under the illusion that 50k damage per deathblow is how you play a Magus.
It's not.
In T1, Magus is extremely powerful for a variety of reasons:
* The pet (back on live, anyway) did decent damage, due to resists not being stacked so high as in later tiers;
* There are no AOE Heals;
* Magus have the best AOE potential of any RDPS
You need to:
* have a dedicated tank guarding you at all times (pertains more to an AoE Magus);
* have dedicated healers;
* have another DPS supporting you/you supporting a sorcerer (glean magic ftw);
* know when to push.
* stack intelligence.
Single-target rotation is usually:
* (assuming you have ample time) get pet out, debuff focus target;
* BT;
* I use FRF, and when I have 20% damage then I'll follow-up with a SVF. SVF is your hardest hitting ability, so you want to try and get the most out of it.
* You can use Rend Winds if you're kiting/if there is a Chosen in your group, then use RW and SVF on cooldown.
AoE rotation:
* Make sure you are guarded, and have support;
* Glean Magic from afar, and try your utmost to respawn the pet from a previous location. You don't want seconds wasted in chokepoints trying to spawn a pet;
* BT a few of the key targets from afar, if needsbe (healers, bws, etc)
* The fun part: Lash spam! Due to lack of AOE Heals, if you have sufficient complementary DPS players then you can kick ass.
Dueling:
* The only classes you will have trouble with are Engis (due to that turret being incredibly OP, though if you duel without minions you should win), SWs with VoN up (unless you dot, detaunt, and LoS), and the DPS healers. Other than that you can defeat anything rather easily;
* VS MDPS: dots from afar, rend wins spam, when they get close, snare them and root, get distance, rinse repeat - gg
* VS RDPS: Engis is a DPS race, so you want to get all of your dots up, and use SVF whenever you can, and RW/maw spam; BWs are easy, just dot them, RW and SVF; SWs are a bit harder, but if they haven't got VoN up, then you can usually win with the same tactics (though it's 50/50 against a good one)
Final tips:
* Save your SVF for targets that are about to go down (unless you are playing ST assist with a sorc, in which case time it with their doombolts). Coupled with a FRF, that's how you can get KBs;
* Also: having all of your dots on in an aoe situation, coupled with demonic lash spam, will usually get you an ample amount of KBs. You will never really compare with a sorc in the KB department, but you can come close.

But Jonathan and Zonder both give good advices
Re: Looking for some advice on how to play magus
Listen to Sanguish, he is an expert when it comes to Magus. (compared to Voidmaster)
If you need expert advice, do yourself a favor and talk to Isabell, best Magus
