that's inaccurate. u can block AND parry guard damage and on parry u have a flat +25% against guard damage due to guard mechanics and parry formula. the avoidence work like: u receive an attack from the front (u cant parry/block attack from behinde), the game decide if u blocked the attack, if u block u receive zero damage, if u dont block the game decide if u parry/dodge/disrupt the attack. so if for example u have 20% block and 50% parry and u receive 100 melee attack then u will block 20 of these, of the remaining 80 the half will be parried and thus your melee avoidence is 60% since u will receive only 40 attack of original 100.
Can you parry with sword and shield?

Re: Can you parry with sword and shield?
Maybe you should test it yourself before you claim it, but a while ago hogun made a test ( viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31055 ), in which he tried to claim, that pure parry is better for guarddmg avoidance than block + parry (not true, but the test shows his avoidance of guarddmg).Ototo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 10:18 amNope. You have a flat 25% parry to your guard, which is exactly what I said. The rest is in the post that I refer to, as I said.blechkautz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 10:16 amThe marked part above is the wrong part as Ysaran pointed out, so it's not unrelated to your post, where you hand out false information.Ototo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 10:11 am
Which is unrelated to my post cause was in the original post I refer to. I just pointed out that the statement that you only parry mele attacks is not true: you parry mele attacks, guard attacks, and some specific skills tagged for it like Terrible Embrace that are exceptions. It's not even assured that you can parry a mele attack as some of the mele skills of ranged classes are tagged to dodge it.

At any point I spoke of block. The refute to that thread was made here by the dev team and not in the thread that you link.blechkautz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 10:47 amMaybe you should test it yourself before you claim it, but a while ago hogun made a test ( viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31055 ), in which he tried to claim, that pure parry is better for guarddmg avoidance than block + parry (not true, but the test shows his avoidance of guarddmg).Ototo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 10:18 amNope. Maybe read the thread you linked? Weaponskill gives you 25% parry for the sake of guard, but overall the cap to parry guard is 75%Ototo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 11:07 amAt any point I spoke of block. 4 WS gives you 25% parry which is hardcapped to 25% for the sake of guard.
Unless that "hardcapped" means something different for our former community manager, that is exactly what I said.

I may have misunderstood what you were trying to say, anyway what I wrote is the proper behaviour of avoidence

4 WS gives you 25% parry which is hardcapped to 25% for the sake of guard. Everyone has more than 4 WS so everyone has the 25% parry bonus for guard and just so it's over abundantly clear, this applies for both SnB and 2H. so it doesn't matter weather you have 4 WS or 600 WS in case of guard. You will always have that 25% as long as you have 4 WS."
Which means, you get 25% parry from your WS as long as you have 4 WS and not more. He didn't mention any other source of parry. But as you can see here it's not capped at 25%.
Re: Can you parry with sword and shield?
I believe that 25% "hardcap" is related to the parry bonus from weaponskill specifically. 75% parry is the max. So one example you could have 25% from WS, 10% from items, and 10% from a tactic, 15% from an 10s duration ability, total 60% parry (that means guarded damage as well).Ototo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 11:30 amThat is not what the thread says. Outside of guard your parry would be X% from weaponskill (higher than 25% possibly), + 10% items + 10% from a tactic + 15% from ability that may have you reach 75%.
