Is that new?
For me that is the final nail in the coffin for SWs.
How are we supposed to fight WEs, Maras, Choppas let alone all these tanks when they all have high parry, dodge, M1 immunity to ranged damage, high armor, high health and maybe even guard? They also have incredible gap closers on top of that. The balance has shifted so much in favor of melees, it's not fun anymore.
A ranged SW should have good chances to win when they see a solo mdps first and is at range. We are far away from that. WEs vanish, Maras, Choppas have pulls, charge, break snare, and knock downs and a lot more to either attack or get out and now they even evade/parry a large portion of the attacks.
Where is my m1 to be immune for 7s to melee while still being able to attack? That is such an IWIN button for mdps in small encounters.
SWs and engis are dead as they can be.
Since when can you parry arrows?

Re: Since when can you parry arrows?
Since always? When Ulthuan marches to war, none go more eagerly than the Swordsmasters of Hoeth, for only in war can they truly unleash the full extent of their deadly art. As the Swordmasters advance, their blades blur and weave, knocking aside arrows in mid-flight and leaving trails of bloody spray wherever Hoeth-forged steel tastes flesh.
Anyway go up left tree, get speed boost and ranged knockdown, then you have self-knockback+slow, shadow-step and long ranged on the move slow AND M1 IWIN 100% dodge/disrupt or ranged knockback so they can't gap close after you disengage (if they catch you in the first place)!
And then you can use the Subjugator Cloak to cleanse their slow as well..

Re: Since when can you parry arrows?
Assault stance exists for a good reason, as well as Lileath's forgiveness M1.
You will basically fight with exact same advantage than melee, but you got 4k armor and instacast gap-closer for 15% more avoidances.
You should be able to win almost all your 1v1 engagements, provided you can soften them a bit before they are on you. And then you got a 4s disarm, and a unbockable self-punt+snare...

Re: Since when can you parry arrows?
Yeah, most SWs are running assault for a reason. The two ranged specs are nerfed into the ground and don't work. All you can do is soften them a bit and engage in melee. That's not the point of a ranged dps class though. If I wanted to do melee dps I would have rolled a real melee...Fenris78 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 11:00 am Assault stance exists for a good reason, as well as Lileath's forgiveness M1.

SWs have two fully ranged dps trees. They are ranged dps classes. Just because they can't be played as ranged dps doesn't change the fact that they are ranged dps. They can't fullfill that role. No matter what you say.
Have a look at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1133206792
Everybody playing melee for a reason. Melee here, melee there, melees everywhere. You don't even get city groups as high SW or Engi. They want WP, RP, Slayers, maybe a WL or BW if there are no other slayers and tanks. That's it. Nothing else wanted. What could be the reason for that? Oh yeah, SWs and Engis are bad...
Re: Since when can you parry arrows?
That's in general true. However, if certain classes are "unwanted, unwelcome or undesired" in city endgame, like it currently is for SWs and Engis, then these classes are by definition bad in that game mode, because "bad" means "unwanted, unwelcome or undesired". If they are bad in group vs group as well (see ranked) and even bad in 1:1, what's left then? They are overnerfed classes.EuphoricAnguish wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 5:41 pmJust because one class is preferred over another doesn't mean the lesser preferred class is "bad."
People still rolling them a lot because of concept, or lore, or into or because they don't know better.
What do you think happens to these players? They either reroll or leave. There is something wrong with the game when that happens. It's also bad for the population of the server. The population is dropping, that's a fact. When people can't play the classes they like because they are unwanted or just don't perform, then it's bad for everyone in the end. When they are not wanted in city engame - which happens like twice a day - they are not able to progress in gear and give up. Most of them have to queue solo because they can't get a group because they don't have the gear and are seen as weak link. Then they are thrown in pug wbs together with all the other SWs and Engis and WHs that couldn't get a group. It's the worst possible experience you can give to - especially new - players.

Re: Since when can you parry arrows?
First of all, are you sure it was a ranged attack that was parried? Is it possible that it was a parry of your auto attack? If mdps gets into melee range, your auto attack switches to melee from ranged.
In a ranged ST spec, SWs perform pretty badly outside of killing pugs. Outside of BHA spam in a fort, the AOE is also pretty bad too.
Honestly, the class is a mess of changes and nothing works very well together anymore. Glass arrow is an AP sucking, DPS reducing joke. 65 ft Shadow Sting puts the class back to its broken launch state. Even when the RKD was tied to a 2 minute VoN cooldown, at least it could be used on the run.
SW will always be a popular class, however, its place in the current pecking order of DPS certainly doesn't warrant it.
Hmmm.... Anecdotally, I just did a pug City yesterday with 7 SWs.Husti wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:34 pmThat's in general true. Re: Since when can you parry arrows?
Seems like a fine observation. Watching WEs just walk around getting guaranteed kills and free RR is pretty disheartening.EuphoricAnguish wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 5:41 pm Or, and this might shock and disturb you, pure melee classes are too strong. Just because one class is preferred over another doesn't mean the lesser preferred class is "bad."
I remember when WEs had to fight for their kills, when you had a chance to kill them. Now its just auto-dead. How did they get so strong? How did all the little things that they wanted end up in their kit such that now they just turn the crank on the free RR machine and then re-spawn and do it again.
Could it be that they are too strong? Could it be that other classes might enjoy having a sliver of a chance? Would it be wrong to place a question mark after that opener rather than make it guaranteed?
But then everyone wants the Ferarri, everyone wants the Monster Truck, no one wants to say “hey lets go back to compacts and see how that works.” when they see other classes jetting around they want to jet around as well and its hard to blame them.
That’s why Devs have to think in a more global manner.
That said though, I hear “not balanced around 1v1”, and “not balanced around t1” all the time.
It makes me wonder what it IS balanced around? Having flatly broken and non-viable classes like SW and ruthlessly broken Monty Haul classes like WE, I have to wonder at what point those are supposed to be balanced?
Is there some projected point in the far future when everything will feel like it has a chance, like it can contribute to the action in some meaningful way? 'Cause right now some classes are straight donk and others get to be rock, paper AND scissors.
And the really inexplicable point of this is that they were actively altered to be that way.
So yeah, some melee are probably too strong, some of them are WAAAYYY too strong. While some ranged have been neutered into uselessness. Why would someone do that?
Dunno. That’s just the way they want it I guess.
