New player tank pick advice
New player tank pick advice
Hello, i want to start playin RoR as tank and i have 2 tanks in mind: KOTBS for order and Chosen for destro. My question is, Are this tanks any good/ usefull for mainly party content but sometimes solo/ small party gameplay? Which tank from 2 i mentioned is "better" to start with? Probably i test both but id like to have idea. I have alot of experience in mmorpgs as tank in decent level of content but every game is different. Thanks for advices.

In terms of utility they are effectively equal, meaning for any party size (6, 12, 24) at least 1 chosen/kotbs per party is required. Even if theoretically kotbs does bring extra utility with group snare and heal amplifier as 2h. That being said chosen actually does some damage as opposed to Knight, so it will do better in small groups (below 6 players). Finally, chosen is naturally a bit tankier in 2h and gets morale pump in snb, so it is possibly a bit easier tank to play - mind you, out of two easiest ones in game but still.
RoR doesnt deserve being taken seriously.

So basically in small parties/ solo i should run 2h and for big fights sword and shield? How about population balance? Is there any faction what need players?

Population balance goes back and forth. This is just my opinion but I would play both if you have the time and switch to the side that needs help. There are a lot of people that "xrealm" to the winning side.

Re: New player tank pick advice
I recommend you choose KOTBS. Well, KOTBS it light armor classes harder. If you also take into account fighting melee classes and have OYG activated im fairly certain damage is about equal or possibly even an advantage for kotbs. Moreover, the total damage output of KOTBS is better than Chosen.

Focused mending is mandatory in all specs.Cyrylius wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 8:46 am In terms of utility they are effectively equal, meaning for any party size (6, 12, 24) at least 1 chosen/kotbs per party is required. I know you know this but to clarify for anyone else reading the thread that may not be as aware of the differences. What you get with the 2H knight is arcing swing that with a tactic not only is a wounds debuff but also a 10% crit increase.
This crit increase is then negated by Chosen applying 10% ctbc on party (excluding the chosen himself) when the chosen crits.
I question chosen being the superior small scale tank. The only place where I see chosen being superior is in fort pushes because of moral pump. But then again KotBS has vigilance and shield rush that gives them a lot of help in case of dry pushes.
Double interrupt, AoE snare and Mending are abilities I rate higher than the parry, ap drain and damage that the chosen has.
OP I believe you should play the tank you find the most fun to play. Learning KotBS doesn't mean you won't be able to pick up chosen play quickly.
I would say as a rule of thumb focus on keeping your party alive first and find good positioning. Second is setting up kills for your DPS (utility, cc, debuffs) and third is to DPS.

KOTBS and Chosen damage are not even in the same ballpark. If you are comparing tanking to Damage output then the kotbs is the lowest of all classes even in BIS gear. However as pure tank the kotbs brings the utilities as stated above.EmmettBrown wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 4:13 am I recommend you choose KOTBS. Well, KOTBS it light armor classes harder. The Chosen is the most popular tank in the game by far not only for its ease of play, tankiness, damage output, but a lot for its aesthetics as well.
I play kotbs on order and bg on destro. Some ask me why not play the Chosen as it is better in almost every way than the kotbs (other than Focused Mending). I play for the knockdown and punt memes and the bg is the class for that.

Blackguard is super strong too. It's more complex but it's super tanky, has great utility and can deal decent damage.Emissary wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 1:15 pmKOTBS and Chosen damage are not even in the same ballpark. But in regards to the OP, find the class you enjoy the most. No point playing an easy class if it's boring to you. I personally like the KOTBS aesthetic. Though I would love some Bretonnian armour lol. I can also only speak for order classes as I only play order. KOTBS will be wanted in every group, it has fantastic group utility but is the lowest DPS and is one of the squishiest tanks. IB is probably the strongest pure tank, can do decent 2h dmg and is complex to play. SM is probably the best 2h in terms of DPS, but also has decent group utility and is decently tanky, again, somewhat complex to play due to different abilities being in difference stances.
