Mismatched Rank and RR

How bad is it to get your character rank too far away from RR. I want to level but i'm afraid of doing too much PvE and making a gap with my RR. Im sitting at 26/25 right now and in between SC pops i was going to PVE but i find myself just sitting around because even from SC losses i have big exp gains.

RR should always be 10-20 higher than CR while leveling so that when you reach 40 and your bolster falls off you aren't super gimped and it allows you to wear gear easier.

just do open rvr constantly, doing scenarios gives MUCH more exp than renown and will result in CR being too high.

if you play right you can get 55-60+ RR at the time you hit CR 40 quite easily. if not and you end up at like 40/40 you will have a harder time playing due to hitting 40 and losing bolster then having bad gear, low renown points to spend, fewer bonus mastery points and not being able to equip conq/vanq gear.

if you mess up like this though you can skip conq/vanq wards by doing beastlord, gunbad and city dungeons and getting the wards/slightly worse gear from there. in fact this is advisable even if you get to CR 40 with 60 RR because it allows you to save war crests by skipping entire wards due to receiving the ward from pve.

20 RR is a lot of points to spend, but ward unification makes it much less painful than it used to be. Redeye or ruin should be a decent fix to the whole issue.

In the long term renown rank is more important than career rank.

It's not a big deal if one falls behind the other, but you will be weaker until your renown rank catches up.

As people have pointed out, having your renown a fair bit above your career rank while leveling is ideal, but it's by no means a must.

I just finished my WH and by time he hit 40 he was 40/47.

If you like pve you'll likely do dungeons at CR40, which means you'll get with item lvls 60-70 regardless of your RR, which for most classes gives you viable gear for at least one spec (albeit often a bit subpar to the PvP versions).

Other than that, the actual stats you get from 10-20 renown points are fairly minimal (+2.5-5% dmg OR def), and the highest value picked well before RR40 already.

So the main reasons to get R50-60 by CR40 are all gone, you no longer get gear/crests in gold bags tied to your RR.

And you no longer have XP reduction scrolls to extend your time at max bolster (CR27-32), outside which you are better off being CR40 if you are doing RvR anyway.

Now I'd say main reason is just to make progression feel more constant, so you are not doing 30-50 renown ranks with minimal/no gear changes
