I would guess it was about the ward cost only, you don't have to buy the jewel piece.shoelessHN wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 7:32 amFull invader is like 3650.BluIzLucky wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2023 2:15 pm Oh yeah, to actually answer the question of going full pvp:
If you buy all your pvp ward pieces (not including belt, cloak and ring) and buying boots and gloves where possible, then you only need:
2162 crests to unlock Invader
+143 for Vanq belt
At this point for most classes Triumphant and/or Victorious are part of their BIS, especially if you plan on getting the ring.
For the pieces that you need for ward but are not part of BIS, you can buy the cheaper invader, so somewhere between 0-3.3k crests could be considered wasted (3.3k full ward from invader).
Obvisously, invader ward cost can be significantly reduced with 1-2 lucky BS runs, if you are to do that for the weapon anyway or you need full sov (snb tanks, AM/SHM).
And as long as you are willing to pay around 500g for gloves+boots+vendor/AH fillers or buy them on other alts, you should be more than fine as long as you get 11-15k depending on your class/setup, which looking at replies here and on other posts is about what you can expect.

Re: How many crests at rr 80?
I saved all off my crests since level 1 on my engineer. At current level 72, I have full off sov in my stash. Bloodlord/fort weapons, bloodlord/sent mix of gear.
I plan to buy some warlord piece of gear now.
So yes of You save Your crests, you have all the gear at rr75+.

Yeah, not including 900 for ring and 300 for belt, as I believe neither are needed for ward (not sure if prices were reduced since crests change, but I have full set at 4.5k).
Also, just to add to my above post, once you consider time spent in PvE (full run of all dungeons + PQ + BS) you've probably spent 15-25 hours, that could have gotten you crests and renown, making the difference in crest savings between full PvP and full PvE even smaller.

That's great it sure gives hope to the toons I'm doing pve with...Wdova wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 10:41 am I saved all off my crests since level 1 on my engineer. At current level 72, I have full off sov in my stash. Bloodlord/fort weapons, bloodlord/sent mix of gear.

...However what I want to know if is I'm able to actually buy the pvp gear in a pvp game without going broke.
I think I may actually just try it and see how bad it goes.
Is there any toon that is better for this? That needs to go conq-vanq more than others? For example any healer 'd be a bad choice, I know from experience they can find ways to be useful even on greens.

Let's do an example with Runepriest/Zealot:
Their BIS in most cases is 6 Triumphant + 3 Sov (ring, cloak, helm), costing around 9k + 2k for staff + 10k for ring.
By going full PvP, buying gloves + boots from AH (and optionally skipping belts on Conq and Vanq), you need to spend only about 2.2k crests before picking up BIS gear at R65-68.
Then you'll need either the invader (772) or Triumphant (1128) helm to finish Ward.
So a total of 3-3.3k "wasted", for a total BIS cost of 14k + 10k for ring though picking up 6p Triumphant to see if it fits your play style could save you 9k later on ring if it doesn't and if it does would give a very nice early boost until you get ring and 3p Sov.
Entirely skipping PvE also means about 500-2000 crests extra for the same playtime vs someone who would do a full PvE run (depending on how fast you clear dungeons and your crest/hour).
My experience is it will take 15-30 hours to do all/most PvE (when you include wait times) and you get 30-120 crests per hour of PvP.
So, remove the 0.5-2k from the 3-3.3k, and we end up with a cost of 1-2.8k for going pure PvP.
Looking at replies here and previous topics, most seems to land in the region of 11-15k crests by R80, so in this RP/ZL example that means you'll most likely be fine or maybe get the fortress upgrade a bit later.

Re: How many crests at rr 80?
nice insight. pve gearing only really makes sense if you got other people to do all the pve back to back in a day or two. i remember trying for two days to form a group for BS lol. it was absolutely soul wrenching,BluIzLucky wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 12:08 pmGuess you didn't like my answer here viewtopic.php?p=544693#p544693 (don't want to sound dramatic... but you are literally killing mefrancomes wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 12:12 pm

That's why I just don't play game so often anymore.
Imagine grinding thousands of crests. Nah, I am not 14 anymore: have job and other real life things to do.

Re: How many crests at rr 80?
I play pretty casually, but I can relate my experience.
I started my BO when they did the currency change. I tend to play for a month, grind out a new armour set whilst enjoying the game, and then inevitably get a bit bored and take a break for a while. I mostly join pugbands in RvR, but do some solo queuing of SCs when the mood takes me.
I'm RR67 and have full invader. I'm in the process of saving up for fortress stuff, then I'll be on to sovreign.
I've been buying the PvP main set the whole way through the game. Full conq, vanq and invader (including boots/gloves and invader jewel, didn't realise they were on AH!). Also got genesis set and subjugator.
I was able to buy all of these, on level, without any problem. The first tiem I fell behind was invader, I was RR66 when i completed the set, rather than RR65. I fully expect to have full sovreign on-level.
One of the things I will also mention is the impact of being casual + weekly rvr /sc quests. If you are "hardcore", you might grind out 65-75 in a week or two of play, meaning you only get the weekly rewards twice during that grind. If you are more casual like me, 65-75 might take you 8+ weeks, so you get those weekly rewards 8 times. It definitely helps!

Something I did realize is that maybe if u going full pvp route it's better to just don't get the 25% renown pot and get the 25 creat instead. While it may be a little difference in crest gain it probably will slow my renown gain just enough so I don't feel I'm "overleveling" my gear. I could also come back to use it if im falling behind so I'll definitely try that.
Another thing about the the weekly, since I love alts, what I tend to do it's to try to stick to a toon till I get the influence and then just play something else (like pve runs or just chill roaming, lvling another toon etc)
