Yeah i understand people choosing their own way of playing and this is my thing. The first time i joined a comms WB and realized there is sense and strategy in the chaotic looking fights of oRvR, i was hooked, and since it worked on me i think organized play is a great ad for the game.
Like Natherul said its very important to find the guild that suits you and there are many different cultures in the many guilds in this game. But even if u prefer smaller scale fights - which is what a lot of the older players prefer - starting out in a guild a much easier, quicker and enjoyable path to learning the game. You can be in a guild just do SCs and roaming, there are groups out there that caters to that playstyle.
And last thing, building up a guild can be so fun, man. When i joined my guild we were absolute garbage, we had other more experienced Guild Leaders saying how they "just used that guild as a meat shield, that's all they can do". And a year later we are one of the best warbands in the game. Growing as a guild is one metric of improvement that is a bit hidden compared to like KDA, RR gain, how many alts you have, solo ranked MMR - whatever - but it can be just as fulfilling.

Yeah, that's right. With how active I am currently, I am just in a guild to get some guild coins.Natherul wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 9:19 am Ofc it should be noted that you dont have to join a guild for more hardcore things. Id say a guild is very important but you should find one that suits you.
Even if you join a more relaxed non hardcore guild you still have more people to help you with stuff and do activities with.
Overall joining a guild is definitely the way to go for the majority of people. There are really no negatives. Assuming the guild plays the content one is looking for and uses comms. After all it's an "MMO"RPG. Judging by some rants on here i believe that many of these posters have not found the right place yet. A guild can nurture you, and you can nurture a guild.

One of my favorite moments that we have recorded.
I 100% agree that joining an active guild is the best step for new players. The content of this game is almost completely driven by its community, and having a good community by your side is what makes the game so fun that many of us have stuck with it for years.

Or another option, from just now, going solo into middle of zerg fight on my chosen.

Join a zerg guild and you'll end up carrying a lot of mid and low skill players. Better off solo if you know what you're doing.

Carrying bad players seems more akin to eating soy in your scenario.
Re: Why new players should join a guild

I think you are confusing the roles here. Why would I join a wb for the soy based hamburgers with extra WHO approved bug protein on top, when instead I can go hunt solo for some juicy steaks?

I think this is something that alot of people are overlooking and glad you mentioned it.Rotgut wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 12:12 pm Yeah i understand people choosing their own way of playing and this is my thing. From the outside it can be very easy to just assume that a warband is just faceroll, winning with numbers advantage and not knowing base mechanics. There is some truth to orvr and warband play being more easy to get into, and there will be moments where you dont need to know the exact interactions between debuffs, cc immunities or heck even know what the other side can do. Warbands and pugplay is fantastic for that. Guilds that have players knowing these mechanics are applying them to the bigger scale fights, several people will call out core abilities in order to setup a kill and create a snowball or combined do an offensive/defensive manuer, but as a unit. This is a skillset that many soloers or smallscalers (based on this topic getting attempted to be massively derailed

Some 6v6 fights rely heavily on the communication to create openings and secure a kill, same for warband fights and social pvping as a guild in whatever size really. The more people involved the more the calls and communication can be seen as basic, but theres alot going on in the engineroom. Coordinating people who all have their own drive, goals and playstyles, making playtimes match and building a composition and fitting in people into the roles take time and effort from the guildleaders and officers, and guildmembers can just reap the rewards of their labor by contributing and attending while having fun with likeminded folks.
