[Mac OS] How to Install Return of Reckoning V.2

I tried the install guide on my Mac with an M1 Pro chip, using macOS 14 Sonoma and crossover v24.

The .net step seems to work, and the installed directories are found in the bottle. I’m not sure however if Directx for modern games work as I can’t find it in any directory. I tried installing it manually as well (download link provided of the 1st version of the download guide). Because - when I open the RoR launcher, it continuously insta crashes, or it will start and download briefly before the launcher quits responding or crashes. Any advice on what the issue can be here?

You need Directx otherwise the Wined3d which handles the Dx9 queries won't work.

Directx for modern games is not in any directory, you need to install from Crossover itself, open it, click on "Install" (should be on lower left corner), now in the search box write "directx" and it will pop up the option to click on "Directx for modern games" click on it, now select the bottle where you want to install it (same as de RoR one) and click install on the top right corner.

Yes ofc I tried just that but I was thinking it would appear in a directory in my bottle which I couldn’t find. I did do what you suggested here and the issue I was reporting is that despite going thru that process it doesn’t work. Any clues why that may be ?

Yes I know the problem, the old launcher link got replaced and the new launcher won't work with apple silicon, please replace the launcher with this one:

I tried exactly that. And followed the exact procedure outlined and still can’t get it to work. Could it be that the RoR download link is wrong? Any chance you could link one specifically from the download page? I used the MacOS one for the full game.

I’ve also noted, that once .net if finished installing, the bottle type changes from being windows 7 64bit/windows 10 64 bit to being Windows XP 64bit. Could this instead be the reason for the issues and how can you avoid the bottle type being converted automatically?

Glad it worked, unfortunately we are bond to the old client till we receive some updates on wine under crossover for Mac. As soon as I manage to solve the problem I'll update the guide, just for the record the new client is 64mbsish big and the old is 2mb, macOS under apple silicon atm needs the 2mb one for which our beloved staff will keep support till a fix is found.

I've tried to run RoR on M1 via Crossover, but I've got at most 30 fps with crazy drops and honestly it's unplayable. Then I tried Parallels and bang 60 fps. It's crazy that it works better in full virtualization, because usually games in Crossover have better fps. I just have a problem with mouse sensitivity like million DPI when i move the camera.

Can someone please help me how to install it using Whisky? I really wanna play again..

I installed the game, first time it seemed like even though it installed I couldn"t find any files in the normal suggested path. So I installed again and now I had files and the Launcher but if I double click the Launcher nothing happens. I installed directx9.0c or the one that it suggests. I cannot find a newer directx in the Winetricks menu. I'm downloading Net 4.8 now as well.

Am I doing it right? Or can someone help me with clear instructions using it with Whisky please? I don't have money for CrossOver.

Hi, first thanks a lot for the mac guide! Installation was very easy with crossover. Unfortunately i cant get the game to run with a decent framerate. So i hope to find someone who managed to get the game running smoth.

My Setup:
MacbookPro M2 Max
32GB RAM
CrossOver 24.0.5 with Win10 and everything according to the guide.

This thing should run most game with a good framerate. But i barely managed to get around 10-15 FPS in Scenarios. In the World outside camps i can get up to 40 FPS, but as soon as many NPC and Players are around it drops to ~15.

The setting that affected the FPS most was the Animation setting. Everything else did not change FPS at all. Even if played at 3840 x 2160 (4k) it did not change the fps. So there is some bottleneck around. Im new to crossover, so i dont know how to tweak stuff there. I Just enabled MSync and disabled everything else.
