Basic gearing guide for newer level 40?

Hello friends!

So I have the basics down for gearing my 37 SnB Chosen. Right now I have Ruin/Annihilator with basic renown jewelry and weapon/shield. I understand that because of the new system I’ll have to buy the other token sets in order anyways.

But before I spend any more of my tokens on shields/weapons I was wondering if there wasn’t some easily obtained pve weapon I could get at 40? Can I run high end dungeons for gear right when I hit 40?

And which genesis jewelry set should I go for? The one with wounds bonus or hp/sec bonus?

not sure about snb but as a chosen you want hand of malal anyways which you obtain from city dungeons.

there are also three epic quests where you get weapons as a reward, they also have procs

Gunbad purple bag have madcap weapons.
downgrade version of subjugator.
City dungeons have rare drop of sentinel weapons.
same level as subjugator.
so rare probably buying subj could be faster.

PvE ward is good. no need to buy full set with crest.
mix set bonuses.
slowly upgrade armor pieces with rr.

My goal for when I first hit 40 on my black orc recently was:

Subjugator weapon, shield and cloak (35 genesis crests)

3x genesis jewellery (30 genesis crests). Everlasting I think is the set, one of the pieces has +block, 3 piece set got me toughness and reduced crit chance iirc

Final jewellery piece can either be gunbad diamond (i picked one up for 4g on AH) or Mark of the Bulwark (50 war crests from same vendor as genesis stuff). Both pieces give +block

Full conquerer set.



I found with this setup, I was maximising block chance as well as reduced chance to be crit, both essential for a snb tank. Granted, my BO couldn't really kill anything, but at least as a fresh 40 I wasn't getting dropped and could be an effective guardbot.


I will admit, this setup does require quite a lot of genesis crests which can be a grind if RvR isn't going your way. That said, each genesis crest is worth 8 war crests, so your choice is 65 genesis, or 520 war crests. The rr45 weapon/shield are 400 crests each, AND they're worse than subjugator. Not to mention, u need subjugator in order to trade up to fortress weapons, so you're gonna have to get them eventually anyway!


Some alternatives you can get quickly / easily whilst getting the rest of your stuff:


Winds Impervious Jewellery - 3 piece jewellery set for ToK unlocks. Armour and Init as set bonuses, plenty of resistences on the pieces but low on other stats. Only took me about an hour to get all 3 pieces, it's pretty easy. Guide / instructions are on the wiki

T4 Epic Quest Weapons - there are three epic quests (one per pairing) in T4. The quests are available at level 36, and each rewards you with a purple weapon or shield. They all have relatively good stats, as well as procs. I did all three quests at level 36, got myself a 1h, shield and 2h weapon and kept using them until I got my subjugator stuff. They can be a bit time consuming, but u can solo them all and they take u to some cool places.



I don't really know much about PvE dungeons as I haven't gotten around to them yet. But, if you can find a group and you enjoy it, then go for it. There does seem to be good stuff in them. I just preferred the predictable upgrades offered via vendors, rather than drops from dungeons.

Aren’t the weapons from city dungeons just influence based? If I remember correctly, it was just a couple of runs to get them. It only took me 4, I think, total to get the ring, and you get the weapons before that.

i was talking about boss drop purple weapons. rare drop rate.
don't farm it. it was just information.
but city dungeon influence weapons are one of gearing option.

IMHO, full Ruin for the block bonus. Hop in on a Beastlord run to get that gear and wear cloak with a wounds Tali, ring, and book. Find a crew that liked having a Chosen around that can bring you through Gunbad, BB/BE, Bloodlord and save your crests. Get as many genesis crests as possible and get Subjugator weapons. Save your crests for as long as you can hold out, Sovereign costs a lot. Get Spicy Troll Mushroom and renkown pots from greenskin city quests if you don't already have them. If you do Gunbad before you can get Subjugator, those weapons/shield are similar sans procs. If you need help message me or look for me in game. All my toons have Arla in the name. Greenstone city quests? What are those? Thought we only have Altdorf and IC cities?
