Fast R40, missing RR

Hi,

I came here for advice... I returned to RoR after quite a long time and I have some R40 toons and a lot in mid ranks 20-30 from my previous active times.

In the time, when I played, it was somehow viable to grind R40 in pve by aoe slaughtering of mobs, farm Ruins set from PQ and you were set to go (ofc not so powerful, but it was much faster way and viable as a starting point).

How is the situation now? I did read somewhere, that it might be better in this case to create and lvl up a new char instead since I will crucially miss RR. Is this truth? I have some love for my old chars and ofc I spent a lot of time by getting everything that far.... now with a family I have much more limited options and have to double think about my time investments, but ofc I dont want to somehow struggle and struggle and loose interest in the game due to that. :/

No need to recreate them, just do some pve. Rr 43 or so is enough for 3 part conq/domi (boots +gloves, which you can get off AH, +belt which you need to buy with crests but is cheapest). Mix with some pve set, say sentinel, and you are competitive enough.

If they are lower than rr43, still can do, though will be a bit tougher. Farm Ruin, then Redeye (Gunbad), then sentinel (city dungeons), then bloodlord (BS). Also check beastlord, and possibly Hunter's Vale set. Bloodlord is competitive for a lot of classes, if not then mix some other sets, if needed pve set with something like annih/merc till you get higher rr. You need to farm dungeons anyway for ward unlocks, so just finish it to get competitive setup, then go back to rvr.

Sounds good!
I didn't know, that PvE sets are now viable also for RvR / Scenarios. So this might be a good way to get my chars back on track.

They are mostly around RR20+, but I am glad to hear, that it will be manageable with some base gear from dungeons.
Is there some good source for guides about dungeon pre-bis pieces to know, what is needed / competitive as a starting point for PvP?

You can see equipment on ror wiki https://wiki.returnofreckoning.com/Main_Page .

Some of it ain't updated, mostly it is correct though.

What is needed depends on class. In general as a low rr toons I would just join pug wbs, meaning you need to do best what is base ability of class- aoe healing + ability to take some dmg for healer, aoe dmg for dps, and parry and general tankiness for tank. So select items accordingly- for healer usually priority is heal crit + wounds, for dps depends on class- mainstat, for physical dps ws/armor pen, and crit, for tank block/parry/wounds.

Also in pug wbs lot of time you won't have guard, and will have too low number of healers, so being able to take some dmg won't hurt on your dps as well.

If you still have love for your characters there is no need to delete them.

There is viable PvE gearing, and in fact a lot of people do it. In general, we do it to save crests - PvE gearsets offer teh same wards as PvP gearsets, and you need to finish a ward before you can equip gear from the next ward. This means we can gearup through PvE and save all our crests for getting sovreign.

PvE gearing route at 40 goes as follows:

Mount Gunbad - gets you the Red Eye gearset, equivalent to Conqueror PvP set

Bilerot Burrows - gets you the sentinel gearset, equivalent to Vanquisher PvP set

Bastion Stairs - gets you the Bloodlord gearset, equivalent to Invader PvP set

In addition, there is the Beastlord series of quests (kill 5 bosses in open world) that will get you some OK gear (good for starter 40s), but importantly once you've collected the gear, you can then do the Hunters Vale dungeon for the Vale-Walker gearset. This doesn't grant a ward, but the gear is quite nice, sitting somewhere between vanq and invader.

I would say that once you've got the sentinel gearset (should be very easy, there are always groups running for gunbad and bb), then you'll be fine in PvP. Will the missing renown ranks hurt? Yeh. You're gonna be missing defences and stuff from spending renown points. But, you'll have enough health and primary stats to contribute fine, and you'll be able to rank up pretty quickly.

If you do decide to reroll, its pretty quick. Devs have said average is about 40 hours to get to cr40/rr45, and 100 hours to get to cr40/rr60.
