Invalid or duplicate name?

Hi there everyone, I’m looking for some help, I haven’t played for a few years for one reason or another, I just got a new PC and installed the game again, all goes well until I try to choose a character, no matter what name I choose I get the following message and cannot progress “you have entered an invalid or duplicate name”, can anyone help out?

Characters that haven't logged in for an extended period of time have their names freed up for use by other characters. It sounds like this is what happened. You will need to select a new character name.

That’s not what I’m saying mate.

It doesn’t matter what name I choose I get the same error message “invalid or duplicate name”. I’m trying to create a new character and start again, it smdoesnt matter if I select a name myself or use the random name generator, I always get the same error message, and as such can’t progress beyond the character creation page.

Any ideas why?

I think you have to be very inventive with names now.
Probably tens of thousands of players that could reserve up to 20 names each.

I had to go with a crazy name (even trying several beforehand) before it finally let me continue!
