Best Greenskin?

I'm trying to get back into the game after being out for over ten years...
Can anyone tell me which greenskin is best in their role?

Essentially I've read the BO is lest desirable tank, but I'm having difficulty finding info on which greenskin does their role best. It doesn't have to be the current "Meta", but I don't have to take something that will hamstring me

Before I left I played BO main to about 40ish, sham and SH to about mid teens/20ish before choppa came out.

I want to play greenskin but I also what a desirable class.

Thanks for any info

Black Orks received a major overhaul since the Ability Rework happened.
Nowdays, for orvr, Sword and Board (SnB) BO is extremely valuable and I would argue for it being the best tank on Destro.
A bad Chosen will be more valuable than a bad BO player, but a good Black Ork will be way more valuable than a good Chosen player.
Talking about SnB specs of course.

If I were to rank all Greenskins in terms of desirability for a proper warband while taking skill into account I would say:

Black Ork:
  • Good and BIS = 10
  • Bad and BIS = 7
  • Good and not-BIS = 8
  • Bad and not-BIS = 5
Melee Squig Herder:
  • Good and BIS = 9
  • Bad and BIS = 7
  • Good and not-BIS = 5
  • Bad and not-BIS = 4
Choppa:
  • Good and BIS = 8
  • Bad and BIS = 7
  • Good and not-BIS = 6
  • Bad and not-BIS = 5
Shaman:
  • Good and BIS = 10
  • Bad and BIS = 8
  • Good and not-BIS = 7
  • Bad and not-BIS = 5

That being said, you will find spots in pug warbands more comfortably as a tank or healer regardless of gear or experience (just due to current class demands)

In the end, just play whatever you enjoy more (visually and gameplay-wise).
You can succeed with all of them.

Considering group composition in every imaginable groupsetup available in the game for the current meta would mean taking a chosen + either bo or bg. While active group utility comes from speedbuffing but chosen has as you sad baseline auras, wich are desirable by anyone in any group. Also chosen has speedbuff as well with full def sov.

To answer the question in regards to smallscale (6man scenarios or realing) would be:

Ranged Squig Herder (RSH)
  • you can fit into pretty much every group composition because of it's raw burst and execute potential.
Melee Squig Herder
  • is not as desirable as RSH because there are better mdps.
Choppa
  • is really good in a pure melee setup or combined with ranged. So can't go wrong with it.
Shaman
  • is really good. Don't have more to add to that.
BO
  • is not as desirable as a bg because of punt and possible dps. You always want to have a chosen in your party. As a BO you can bring speedbuff for roaming, wich is definitely nice if your chosen is running offensive but this also means you will run snb, wich again is not as desirable as a bg.

But if you are good, you will attract attention and will not have problems finding groups with any class, so don't worry to much. :) just decide what playstyle you like, tanking, healing, damage

Ultimately, I don't think any class you pick, greenskin or not, is going to hamstring you. Everything has it's place and if you play well, you'll be fine.

That said, some classes are better suited to warband play, others more suited to solo, and some can do everything.

So, choppa for example, is a nightmare to play solo. It's a class that requires proper support in order to function properly (much like sorc). You'll be fine in a warband where you've got a guard and healer to support you, but without guard and heal, you'll have a bad time.

Similarly, ranged squig herders aren't really wanted in warbands. So much of warband play involves maximising AoE damage output and rsh just doesn't have enough. You can spec melee, in which case you'll be more useful to warbands. You'll certainly have the damage output, but you do lack the extra utility of marauders and choppas. On the plus side, rsh is pretty awesome solo and small scale! Good damage output, good kiting ability, an execute skill for bursting down someone.

Shaman is a great class! I do feel that both DoK and Zealot have better pure healing output, but not by much, certainly not enough to make you not wanted. You've got some good utility. And on the plus side, I'd say shaman has the best DPS spec for solo and small scale.

BO....BO is my main, and I love it! Like Only, I would rank a well played BO as the best tank in game. We're properly tanky, have a ton of damage reduction abilities that help the group, and a ton of utility. If you're a good player, you'll be top for protection numbers more often than not. On top of that, BOs have (imo) the best looking armour sets in the game.
2hander.....thats a different matter. You lose so much utility and survivability that you can't really call yourself a tank anymore. And until you get BiS gear, you also don't do that much damage. However, once you do get BiS....oooo! It can hit like a truck, has maxed armor, and really high levels of parry (i hit 80% with all procs/buffs). You're still gonna suck in warband play with 2h, you're too squishy and not a proper tank. But solo or small scale, 2h BO is a lot of fun!

Good luck with whatever you choose! I'd recommend just experimenting with each and see what you enjoy. If you're really not sure, go BO and stay snb. Tanks are ALWAYS needed, more so than healers at endgame, and snb tanks are a rarity during the leveling process.
