Hi,

Last month Ubuntu got an update, which made all wine versions up to 8.xx probably incompatble (i only tested a few).
Wine proton builds above 9 also have an issue on ubuntu, only the real wine 9, 10 and maybe only some proton 9 builds work atm out of the box.
The Kron4ek proton wine-build 9.02 (and prob all other proton 9 builds up to 9.04) works on ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 atm.

In the hope that it helps

Hi everyone,

I wanted to install RoR on an older notebook (to have some pve fun with the lore and the beautiful artwork).
For the installation I followed the guide in this thread on a fresh Fedora 42 installation and then on a fresh Linux Mint installation.
I tinkered with the different settings and configurations but could never get beyond that dreaded yellow Launcher syndrom.
What helped me to get it working was a hybrid approach (using Lutris for the installation and steam for the runtime).
I installed wine, winetricks + lutris
I don't know if its relevant, but lutris does some updates and loads on startup, so I recommend starting lutris one time before proceeding to the RoR-installation.
Then I did a fresh installation via Lutris (using the installer version on my Linux Mint system).
After that I added the game (RoRLauncher.exe) as a non-steam game to my steam library and
set the checkbox "Force the use of a specific" Steam Play compatibilty tool) in the compatibilty settings and selected Proton 10.0-2 (beta) as Proton version (Proton 9.0-4 didn't work for me).
Now I can start the Launcher with the play-button in steam. On my system it will usually take about 30 sec between the display of the login screen until the launcher ample turns green, but it works. Sometimes though, I have to start/stop the launcher a couple of times until it works...

I hope it will help others...
