I would carry 2 sets of gear, if you find yourself in a sc that is light on heals, you can slap on a shield and go grace with shield which used to be pretty good in small scale, and in dungeons, or you can swap out your armor, and still be semi ok, as most of your heals are core abilities, divine mend, healing hand, group heal, even the group bubble is core.

If I remember after the healer patch, even grace heals are two part now, with salvation affecting part of the grace lifetap heals .

To be honest with you, melee healer specs have been pretty underwhelming in pvp since healer patch last year. While the full dps spec (dw dok / 2H wp) shines with huge damage numbers, you wont heal much besides yourself in this setting. The shield spec still works pretty well in PvE, but the WP lacks the tactic that makes the sdok still semi viable in pvp (Transferred Focus - makes the 2 healing builders undefendable), furthermore sWP requires a very good gear to be able to survive and a guard from a tank, so better played with friends.

Regardless of what you want to play, you should always have 2 sets of gear and a spec swap saved on the class trainer. You can easily swap gear with the ClosetGoblin addon (1 click and it's done) so basically it's 2 clicks swap at the start of any SC. If you end up being the only healer of your group / entire SC, don't hold the rest of your team hostage by refusing to swap to a book spec, that's the most frustrating thing with PU dps healers.

While I'm new to WAR/RoR I started a WP and love it, but coming from a long way of healing and tanking in MMOs (GW1-2 , ESO, WoW just to name the more popular ones) I quickly realized the following:
Tome WP is a group healer. You have no good spammable heals on non group mates like Rune Priest does (and their heals are way stronger by the numbers+ they can move while casting most of their spells too), and your Prayer only effects group members too.
This ofc doesnt mean you are only meant to heal your group mates you are just better suited for it.

Warrior Priest is one of my favorite classes to play. Such a useful class and there are so many ways to play as one.

My recommendations:

If you want to be DPS, use 2H (great weapon) and Wrath mastery tree.
They do a lot of damage, have AOEs and can also heal themselves and at least a defensive target fairly easily. Don't worry about healing more than 1 other player until you go full heal spec. Throw out some AOE heals here and there too.

What I always make sure to have are:
1x Great Weapon with high Strength/Weapon Skill stats
1x 1handed hammer with willpower/toughness/healing crit or %
1x Tome with willpower stat heavy
1x 1handed hammer with strength/toughness/wounds or any parry/block
1x Shield with high toughness/wounds and any block/parry

This covers you for all 3 specs. Now remember, switching between mastery trees allows you to focus on each spec more thoroughly with special tactics/abilities useful for that spec.
However, you can still switch between great weapon 2h, 1h +tome and 1h + shield, AT ANY TIME YOU CHOOSE.

Many players will go majority grace with some wrath or majority wrath with some grace or combo with heal spec (forgot name) and others. Play around and find what you like.

Tactics are a big part of making each spec feel more like it should. So spend some time trying out different combinations.

Also, if you want to have more dps, get the dps version of armor sets with high strength.weaponskill and crit. But for jewelry/cape/belt, you can always get healing or tank versions to offset it.

I go all wrath with a bit of grace and its really fun. I can heal myself and at least one other player as my def target, or be almost unkillable solo (unless ganged up on by 3+ players). 2handers are fun, but sometimes Ill switch it up.

Even though im mostly wrath, I can change my weapons and tactics and still do a decent amount of healing and also push objectives and fight champions as tank ish spec.

Warrior Priests have immense versatility. Get used to trying out different combinations and let your abilities (spells) proc and work for you. You can debuff, cast a magic shield on yourself, heal yourself, buff yourself, debuff othes, single target attacks, aoe attacks, you get a nice punt at 40 and lots more.

Check the guides on here for more details for each spec, but you can definitely play with a mixed bag and have a lot of fun. GL Sigmar's Chosen!

Runepriest on the other hand - now THATS how you design a good healer.
All three mastery paths can do both healing and damage, brilliant in my opinion.
Say what? Not one single mastery ability is for healing. Every RP healer is just playing using their baseline abilities and some of the utility abilities in the mastery trees. That's not good design, and has plagued RP from live.

WP/DoK is the only heal class that has 2 trees dedicated to healing. RP/Zeal has 0. AM/Sham have 1.

Renown and XP in scenarios are pretty much shared by everyone. Healing, DPS, doing objectives, none of that affects your renown (unless you win one of the contribution categories). The vast majority of renown is given at the end of the scenario, not from kills.

Also, I wouldn't fret about leveling up. It only gets worse in T4 as you face people who have gear 2x as good as yours and more renown points spent, instead of equal like in T1-3.
