[Ironbreaker] Is IB a strong duo class?

Heyo, recently came back to the game after a 2 year break and heard that there has been a bunch of balance changes, especially regarding tanks.
I did not tank before but decided to give it a shot with SM and have been having a blast, but I read that IB has (or at least had) some really strong buffing potential.
Is it still possible to buff someone a lot? Could I find a melee to team up with and 2vX crazy style or is IB /just/ more of a "supportive tank" in comparison to say SM.
Would like to find a tank with some unique gameplay and a buff heavy front-liner seems fun, but if they have been changed to remove much of that aspect then I am not interested. After having read posts from different times I am unsure what to make of IB and I wouldn't want to level one all the way to 40 to realize they can't start swinging with a bro :D

Find a DPS WP friend that you’ll guard and buff as an IB, whilst together you damage, and the WP can heal / lifetap you.

Imo the buffs are underwhelming. IB has a ridiculous number of them but only a couple feel even slightly impactful. I think most people who play IB enjoy the vibe rather than the effectiveness.

Imo the IB can use his potential only when he guards a melee dps. Buff and Grudge wise. So if you gonna play duo with a mdps, its a good choice.
