It was kinda obvious that they needed Intel cause of the grenades do magical dmg, corporeal, but it was not, anyways im nearly sure that the Electromagnet, or Discharge, or some special attack of that style, when released, used Intel. Like many of the Engi attacks, they changed it to use Ballistic, but never changed the gear having strght in it, basically nearly all, specially spanners.

Also dont forget that u were nearly forced to use Napalm and Electromagnet, cuase u could take both and they were completely cheese when comboed, basically leaving you only 1 point to spend in something else. I picked the healing barrel also, cause, again, was renown-cheese.

I mained a rr 100 WE on live and never ever lost a 1vs1 against an engi. Maybe if the WE is balls out glass cannon and the engi balls out turtle tard. Or if the WE is dumb and allows the engi to kite her. Or if the engi engages the WE on range (but then don't engage that's what ganking on WE/WH is all about). Otherwise no. Just pop RD 3 (which you should really run as a competitive mdps) after unstealthing and it's gg.

For the magus vs engi debate I prefered magus. I specced tb, rd1 and cw1 I guess but never stacked defensive stat. He was still much less squishy than my sorc and had a disgusting damage potential along with good kiting tools. Was pretty fun.

Tanky Engi has to be deftard. You only have to detaunt after the WE comes out of stealth and then survive their immunity. There were a lot trinkets and potions to make that happen.
Dying is no option.

Hey I hope I'm not too late.

This is my one and only video from the game when it was live. In short, absolutely you can solo. I loved my engi and all I would do was solo. I rolled one again on this server. I choose a light-tank build with medium-high offensive stats. Engis are best solo with a lot of the higher, T4 RR80+ abilities.

(gear setup from video)
- defensive sovereign
- offensive RR training + talis
- mostly path of grenadier and rest in rifleman
