Engineer for soloing

Hi there, I never played engy on live, but I am playing one now and find it really powerful and full of possibilities.

My questions for veterans of the class are two:

1- Is engy a viable class for soloing? I remember playing t3 in the final days of WAR and noticing some roaming solo maguses would kill anything including some tanks very very easily and their health didnt go below 75%. Absolutely amazing, on a par with the best maras, WEs and shammies that used to grief casual orders in the lakes. as engy is the mirror class for order, I thought maybe something similar could be achieved with the little bearded gunners.

2 - Is engy capable of decent melee performance?. I am a fan of having ranged classes go melee (The other way round doesn't seem to be possible in WAR, a pity:)) I see the engy has some powerful close combat tools. I've evn read somewhere the phrase "Engy tank", and those two words sound extremely appealing to me. Flak jacket, armor tactic and half duration knockdown tactic seem promising.

I am referring to later tiers. Do you veteran players have any ideas to share? Thank you in advance.

The class is viable solo but I personally prefer magus. Never liked the available tactic options on engi.
You can't really go for melee but you can build a close range setup with a tanky build.
Dying is no option.

It was very much viable for soloing on live yea, at least in T2 and T3, and loads of fun to play.

Mine was specced for rifleman, with increased toughness, +10 ft range, and dot tactics. Never really tried the melee thing but you can make em fairly tanky at least, and specced for grenades that shud be somewhat playable.

Magus is better because of the mess that Bali.Skill and Intelligence are for Engis. Plus they need to consider weapon dps as well. Horrible mess!

Meanwhile Magus only needs to stack defencive stats + intelligence.

Guess which one is prefered...

Since when did Engineers require Intelligence? The change to make Electromagnet based off Ballistic Skill happened when I was playing this game.

What stats and tactics and spec (which of the 3 trees) are needed in order to make a engy tanky? Are the heal kegs useful?

What would you say are the chances of a tanky engy with full trivial blows against a good WE unstealthing on him for example? sorry for double post.

Thank you!

What I meant was that they dealt both Physical and special dmg at the same amount. What this meant was that you needed to actually stack WS not Int!

My mind being quicker than I write so this happens from time to time.
