It's a PVP game, I've been trying to avoid this comparison, but imagine if in League of Legends you started a game and your opponents were all already level 18 with their full builds and you were just level 1 with nothing. How could you possibly get anything done?
That's what's wrong with WAR. Sure you all start out the same, but you don't all start at the same time.
It might be alright to get into it if the gear was maybe like 10% of what it is now, instead of making your character completely overpowering to someone without gear. It removes all semblance of skill.
EDIT: I am trying to get through this so called "progression" you speak of anyway. I'm finding it ridiculous that people grinded this long to get all these items just to crush in PVP, on a test server no less. It removes all fun in it for others who don't have the time to do such grinding and forces them to feel like they have to if they want to be able to compete at all.

Re: Way to Ease New Players In
Thats exactly the point why there are Tiers(for the lvl1 vs 18 part). But overall that comparison is simply wrong. Its actually more like being lvl 18 with 2 items against a fullbuild lvl 18. And some of those lvl 18 (with just 2 items) even forgot their Masteries. But even then, with superior strats, map control, teamplay etc. the weaker ones can win.RustyIsBad wrote:I've been trying to avoid this comparison, but imagine if in League of Legends you started a game and your opponents were all already level 18 with their full builds and you were just level 1 with nothing. Trying to shrug it off and simply claim the gear inbalance to be the root of all evil in this game is wrong and won't bring those ppl any closer to achieving what they wish for.

Re: Way to Ease New Players In
I see what you are saying, but I feel more like thats the case once you level up to 12 but are still out geared, I can already feel that I can fight a bit at 10. Not well enough to 1v1 a fully geared level 12, but the 1 damage hits are gone on all except guarded targets.
Starting out at 1 like I said you have access to like 3 basic skills, they have like 15, which includes their first morale ability. Then as you level you gain stats, even though you were already scaled up to that level. So obviously the RvR boost just gives you a negligible boost to stats, if any, and roughly how much HP an ungeared level 12 should have, if they gained no wounds from level ups.
And yeah its all a moot point once tiers are introduced. At least until T4 and trying to catch up to the top RR. At least then the process doesn't involve hours of farming PVE mobs or camping a lair (which honestly was neat fighting off Order to keep the camp) for 2 hours for it to drop 2 pieces of green gear that don't even fit any one of the 7 players there.

I don't think the gear is this bad here, but this is how it was on live with the level 10 capped trial accounts. This guy is even clicking his skills.

2:42 WTF?!
2:43 Damn, a WE!
2:44 Better run away from this pvpshit.
2:45 Ah nvm, let her :| me...

The player in the video has that "shining light" on him all the time. Does someone remember which kind buff this is (maybe it has something to do with his damage)?

Something like this ^. Best group setup's involved getting organization down, had very little to do with gear. Good group comp with reasonable gear, and everyone playing their role, you can out play better geared opponents. New players should organize if they want to actually win at organized pvp, its that simple. During the original game's first couple of server merges, plenty of people started fresh in established communities. They had to progress and organize to get anywhere while others around them already had a leg up. Heck that's why ToVL was such a nice addition, intermediate gear that didn't require RR grind to be competitive.noisestorm wrote:Grobbok wrote:And how you think, why original game is dead? why from 40 server, at the end stayed only 2, ONLY 2 servers on whole world!, OMG, WoW have 10 server for Germany only.RustyIsBad wrote:
But what about the newcomers who will get turned off by this, do we just say **** 'em and continue camping spawns on level 12 fully geared toons rather than giving them a chance?
Ye, it's sad, very sad only, but that how that game looks like, 40lv100rr ppl who camping spawns and keeps, and what new ppl can do? Just count that they could participate in zone locks, and keeps, and some sc, and if they have luck they slowly levelling up. As you see many ppl didnt like that scenario and left game -> game dead.
I, we all, want change that, but I dont know if anyone know how bring balance on rvr, how help newcomers.
The major problem here is with people generally being bad as hell tbh. I wont say that gear play no Role, but a really skilled group of lets say Invasor geared can still bring QUITE a hard fight or even defeat a group of full Souvereigns. You already see the skill differences here in T1, where gear on most ppl is homogeneous overall.
More then likely 6x level 6-8 characters with proper comp (2 tanks, 2 healers, 2 dps), working together, can trounce 6x level 12 pubbies that aren't working together. Healing, guard swapping, detaunt, it really is that strong when used properly.
