Heal kegs are useful to some extent but were mostly used to leech RR for out of group heal in keep takes/defences.

Tanky engi kills a WE yea, mine was all glass cannon and would still win 60-70% 1v1. If you time all the snares, roots, staggers and dots right, she's dead meat.
Spec trees to make em tanky would be tinkerer and grenades, and stacking toughness/armour.

If you want to play a rDPS with melee capabilities, you have to play shadow warrior on order side.
The engi has some melee/close combat abilities, but the SW is way more effective/fun with his stance switching mechanic.

You could solo pretty dam well on a engi, if u spec defensively with kegs u can spam all your dots on target detaunt and heal yourself with ya kegs and if you are in a bad situation you have land mine stagger, barbed wire and kd from turret to kite or retreat. The thing with engi's is it isnt as easy as a sw where u can just kite all day, it requires more work but is defo more fun and rewarding.
Im sure players from EU servers remember pippu, the greatest engi i saw, if s/he ever made any vids of engi play it would be cool to see.

Its a good class, but go for Magus. U gonna have the same, but ur gear will not be VASTLY handicaped with useless Strght. Leveled one Engi to 40, and eventually abandoned it cause i currenty had a Magus and the comparition was like "WTF?!?! This class is so inferior to the mirror....". Anywys they have 2 good points you will thank all along the game: they are tiny and easy to hide anywhr, just find a bush and u got cover, and the armour sets themselves are AWESOME, just loved every damn part of them, except the horned hat.

Look how cool the armour sets are

This is an itemization problem, so I will fix it.

If Magus is anything to go by, then yes - they're good at soloing.

Magus was one of the best solo classes end-game if well-played. Though it didn't have to suffer the ridiculous amounts of armor people were stacking.

Then u gonna have to rework also the defensive buff. Engi get armour while Magus get Robe. Either buff Daemonic Armour or nerf Flak one. I think the second choice is better in overall, giving the fact that Magi have right now a decent balance survavility/DPS.

EDIT: im not sure, but i think that HERE the stats are reworked. At least here i cant see a single strght stat.

EDIT2: The need to rework the buff is cause, right now, the strght actually balance a bit the classes, making one (Magus) more offensive focused and the other (Engi) more defensive focused, in the line of not exact mirrors that Mythic applied.

What?

The Strength on Engineer items is a throwback to launch, when Friction Burn, Spanner Swipe and other close-ranged attacks used the Strength statistic.

The terms "armor" and "robe" don't matter WAR.
There are only three types of armor: light, medium and heavy.
A light "robe" has the same armor value as a light "armor", same for medium robes/armor (non-stealth mDPS + WP/DOK).
