Roll a KotBS. You will smash faces in 1v1, and be super useful in groups as well.maulkin wrote:Thanks people. I'm actually a bit disappointed for what you said. I really like the idea of being a dps/tank hybrid and smash faces with it in 1vX fights. I guess I've played too much eso & gw2

Re: new player here, help me to choose a class
Ty for all suggestions. I was away for a while after playing some time , and with the new update i'm back again. I totally forgot this thread, and for now, i guess it's time for an update
I have played knight up to lvl 25. I enjoyed most of my time in scenerios with a 2h sword dps tank build. It was good but after some time, i felt im missing something. RvR was just a plain dissappointment for me coz i literally wrecked by ranged dps every time.
I found out i lack tankage with a 2hander and even more if I guard someone. It just cant keep up enough with the incoming damage. And I lack dps aswell. Most of my kills were lower lvls or undergeared peeps or very squishy classes. Otherwise my dmg just tickle them and I took enough dmg to get myself killed.
Also often I find myself out of AP very quickly in most fights even with my ap generator auras on. After loading all of my dots on target and maybe a snare, im out of ap, unable to do spike dmg. It's extremely awkward and looks silly after i managed to eat through 70% of my target's health and afterwards unable to do anthing else than desperatly waiting for ap to regen.
Maybe im just a noob but im absolutely not happy with my decision on knight.
For now im looking at IB and black orc for 2h dpstank build. I heard IB is more like dot based and some spike damage from its special mechanic (grunge?) and borc is more like bursty one that unloads all of his **** and then waits for cooldowns. Is that true?
And with the new level cap and t3, which one would be more viable as a dpstank? Can you compare them at solo, small scale and zerg?

A new player? Go DPS Archmage, those are the easiest to play in the game and are insanely strong.

Black Orc, Chosen/Kotbs, Ironbreaker if you are set on a tank/dps hybrid role.
Survivability is a bit of a different concept in Warhammer. DPS Warrior Priest/DoK or DPS Archmage might fit you too.

Re: new player here, help me to choose a class
Tried warrior priest as well. But only in t1 and for couple levels, so not enough to even have an idea. I like concept, it's very similar class ive most played in other games. But it's kinda hard to play for a newbie i guess.
And it feels like i will always expected to heal rather than doing damage. So it might hard to find groups if i refuse to being healer. And heard that they are not that good at being dps/heal hybrid in end levels.

Re: new player here, help me to choose a class
No, you're not a dps/healer hybrid on a Warrior Priest. You're a melee DPS with a strong heal that's somewhat reliable, yet there are stronger DPS so they don't see a lot of use in groups.
If you intend to play a 2H tank, that's great but you should invest into Deft Defender (18% dodge and disrupt) and possibly reflexes (18% parry). Knights don't get their AP efficiency until I think 36, but then you will have zero AP issues. Also, don't expect to be able to charge into the enemy and survive easily without pretty strong investment into defense (avoidance, low chance to be crit, ridiculous armor, etc.).
Knights/Chosen are the strongest utility tanks, and offer pretty strong sustained output.
If you want more damage, I would recommend basically any other tank. They all have their caveats but I would say that Black Orc/Swordmaster and Ironbreaker are the strongest damage output tanks with Blackguards being slightly behind.
Out of those, I would say the Ironbreaker with a Grumble and Mutter and offensive build is the strongest solo option, but you definitely aren't restricted as Oathstone also hits ridiculously too hard.
Any group will look to pick you up for your utilty first and foremost. Ironbreakers are hands-down the strongest utility offered from a 2H DPS-oriented tank, their mechanic is the only thing that slows them down. Basically, at 0 Grudge you are okay and at 100 you are a god, so the time you spend building to 100 isn't accomplishing all too much and many fights can be won or lost before that point. Swordmasters are okay, Black Orcs are okay, Blackguards are restricted from having their best tools in any 1 build (especially lacking in an offensive build) and some require a shield.
Overall, Warhammer isn't a very solo friendly game. If you find a good healer or 2 and a dps worthy of your Guard, you will go far.
Post: Regarding your inquiry: A Black Orc offensive build at this point has a lot of damage, an armor debuff, a strong stat steal for your entire group, and some utility. They work equally well with a 2H or a shield. Solo, you will probably get kited to death in a lot of situations. Small scale and scenarios, you can run a 2H for a lot of damage. Large scale, throw on a shield so you can move around with Hold the Line and then continue to go full bruiser on targets.
Ironbreakers can opt to go for Cave-in for a 2H knockdown but I would recommend going Earthshatter, which is a large range pbaoe slow that also does a ton of damage at 100 grudge. At this stage with the Earthshatter build, you can have the self heal and lot of utility like a magic absorb shield or a 50% outgoing heal debuff. Either way, you have good options. Solo, you are hard to kite because you have a ranged slow and a ranged root on your M1 along with your self-heal. Small scale or scenarios you are doing tons of damage, offering a ton of utility to your Oath Friend, armor debuffing and either knocking down with a 2H Cave-Win build or doing tons of damage and slowing everything with Earthshatter. Against a zerg, you will probably have to throw on a shield again and Earthshatter offers a huge pbaoe slow , which is one of the most important things to have white fighting in large scale.

Hmm, many truth in that, y need cold blood and ice balls to play as Mara.Coryphaus wrote:I am against advising the op to play mara, simply because he is a new player
Mara is a mechanically challenging class that requires good mastery of stance shifting to do well and reach the class’s true potential
But if you are god in GW2 weapon changing, auras , elites skills launching and rest of that circus - Mara is ideal choosfor you!
