Thank you for the constructive answers and information.
for others it is astonishing to see you justify an unpleasant experience by a "wait and see at a higher level, it will be worse", "the system is like that, use it as it is" or "you must follow such and such a path, otherwise do not be surprised "
Fortunately, the ROR team does not think like that otherwise no innovation would have seen the light of day. I imagine none of you have done an exploratory study on this. In fact, our feelings are therefore at the same level as yours. Each therefore has its own truth until proven guilty. And I doubt there are only 5 of us feeling that way.
1. buy full set of your level gear.
2. put talismans
3. drink potions
4. form group or get in group
what's stopping you ?
I can help you except #4
literally everyone have passed your current struggles. by various ways.
group, guild is easiest I think.
There are two types of people in the world: those who want to make everyone suffer like they did, and those who want to make things better so others don't have to suffer like they did.
This kind of post is absolutely useless for new players joining the game. Get good, join a guild. Ok, but you don't even know IF you like the game yet. You don't know what is fun, what is not, and if the game is worth spending your free time playing. Assuming the person isn't put off by the 2003 graphics, which to be honest weren't even great then, they have to deal with a much slower game using a wide variety of gcds. None of this is the devs fault, want to make that clear. Those of us playing know all this and knew all this going in for the most part and should hold nothing against the devs for that.
The new zones are not friendly for real new players. They are buggy, you really have no sense what is going on, and often times you are lucky if you see other struggling nubs. Your chat window is a spammy mess of 500 messages per second, so you might not even know what advice channel is, or even how to use it. Or worse, see a lot of the toxic comments in chat and don't want to get ripped on by a 100 "get good drink potions use talis" crew.
You have no idea what counts as a good class, or a good build. You assume tank or healer, or you want to play a "rogue" so you play wh/we thinking they'll be useful. You find a PQ and are like oh this reminds me of WoW, not knowing WoW stole it from WaR. You are willing to overlook the earlier issues as so far you are doing ok. You see your gear often requires a renown rank, and you find out you need to do scens or rvr to get that, so you join a scen. And you got stomped on again and again and again. No amount of git gud and potion drinking is going to change the fact you have zero chance against a twinked out dps dok or wp. That some AM or gobbo is going to burst your brain and you got zero tools at low levels/rr to do anything about it. So you die. And die. And die.
And are like wtf am I doing playing this game? This is not only fun, but this is old game fun without the fun. So you log on and play something you actually enjoy.
This isn't my experience btw, this was the experience of 2 friends of mine I tried to get to play the game, a husband and wife pair that were well experienced in pvp and mmos as a whole. The goal shouldn't be a crucible of melting down players until we get a handful of chosen few left who were willing to stick out being grinded down. We should be retooling things so new players have an intuitive way of figuring out what they need to figure out, and have an enjoyable way of doing so that doesn't always put them at a disadvantage against people who have played the game for 10 years. At this point, even if they DO decide to keep playing, how long do you think it takes a new player not to be so undergeared as to be free kills against the many old timers wearing full sov? You asking them to suck for how long. A month? 3 months? Half a year? Out of a hundred new players, how many you expect to keep with that sort of mindset? Then you find out the realm you are playing is now on one of those downturns where they are getting wtfstomped all day. Hard to get gear, get medallions, get emblems, even if a group, when your side is sucking hard as a whole.
Again, not blaming the devs, but we as a total community need to do better if you want new players to not only come visit, but stay.
