The direct heal portion of the lifetap abilities can crit and uses the offensive crit stat on top of a baseline 10% crit chance (similar to other heal abilities).

Now that's an interesting information. Thank you for that, I wish this could be found somewhere in the wiki... I always interpreted the skill description as a flat value.

leftayparxoun wrote: Mon Aug 24, 2026 6:40 pm The lifetap portion indeed is proportionate to the damage dealt, which, besides others, is a function of the target's armor + Toughness + dmg% reductions.
I don't think it's possible to "remove guard" for the calculation of the lifetap, let alone JUST the heal that comes from the lifetap ability. At best you could make Detaunts less effective/completely ineffective against lifetap abilities (see Choppa/SL, Kotbs/BG tactics), but that conditional effect might be quite hard to code and should also lead to a Dps increase for shield healers which is probably not intended.

If some lifetap skills are to be adjusted, imo it should be in their values and not in their fundamental functions.

I'm looking for some way to mitigate multiple punishments melee healing is suffering without overpowering it. Dry base values look good, but when you start to apply all effects rotated in the melee range, they are reduced to minimum via mentioned variables + disarms, roots and KDs. I'm afraid that if base values are increased, complaints will immediately start about how unkillable WP is (what was the main reason the HD was implemented I guess).

Just two things under my opinion:

Some more mobility like adding an extra speed to "Sigmar's Shield" when casted on yourself to engage in combat asap.
Some extra aoe healing when you are not engaged like modifying "Pious Restoration" to mimic "Restoring hand" while wielding a Shield.

More mobile, heal a little bit more and lets see how it performs.

Well, I’m still sticking to the same idea:

Shield healers should be very strong in melee and, in exchange, very weak when they are outside of close combat.

Giving them healing abilities that are not lifetaps turns them into exactly what they should not be: casters.

In my opinion, all of their healing should be based on pure lifetaps, with no casted heals. At most, if they are going to have any healing tools that can be used outside of melee, they should work through mechanics similar to *Sacrifice*: you damage yourself in order to heal your party, for example.

The philosophy should be very simple:

You’re not in melee → you barely heal.
You’re in melee → you heal a lot.

That risk should be precisely what justifies their extremely high healing output when they are fully engaged in melee combat.

The problem right now is that roughly 80% of a WP’s healing comes from “casted” heals that are affected by healing debuffs, while only around 15% comes from lifetaps. If those proportions were reversed, with lifetaps slightly strengthened to compensate, I think that would be the ideal situation.

I looked at your spec build, and the situation for you and your groups is worse than you think.

No Cleansing power tactic, and not even sure you would have the time to weave cleanses in your rotation. Even if you wanted to use it, something would have to be delayed in its application q rotation.

So, no real way for that spec to attenuate backload burst. See recent magus PTS tests. I would love to see your tests on self defense and healing output compared to Salvation WP if you use cleansed q 5s.

Obviously something would have to decreased if you tried, either self defenses, healing output, and/or both.

I could not discern if any of your test took in consideration of CP being used ~ q 5s by Salvation WP and what would be the difference in healing would be. What we can't see might be just as, if not more important.

Remember, this is the spec that pulled Divine Radiance of Wrath spec. Does it seem like a good trade to you now?

Interesting, feels like staring at the matrix. Are we good or bad now, though? (Hey mum, I'm in Kpis charts! :> )
That info regarding melee crit applies to heal crit for the regular heal part is kinda crazy, though. Now I know why the veteran(s) stacks heavy melee crit and I feel like I rushed the sovereign shopping a bit grabbing all the def focused parts.
That mechanic was and still is well hidden, no idea where one should get that hint to plan the build accordingly.
