[Bright Wizard] Combustion / Career Mechanic

Does anyone else feel like the career mechanic for Sorc/BW is wasted potential? It seems like it was set up as a risk-reward type of thing with you dealing more damage at the cost explosions/backlash. Yet in its current state there is really no reason not to be at 100 combustion/dark magic. Unlike the BW/Sorc a good choppa/slayer arguably needs to have a good grasp of their mechanic and proper usage of rage dumps in order to increase their survivability as needed etc... As well as some skills getting a bonus at a specific tier of rage.

The "risk" that BW/Sorc take is currently like ~600 pure damage taken 35% of the time (at 100) which could really just be translated into ~200 hp lost per cast, which is less than a tick from a HoT, and group heals hitting for over 1k non crit makes this absolutely negligible with even just 1 decent healer in the party. And their damage potential isn't fully realized or rather I feel the classes were balanced around being at 100 combustion/dark magic, so dumping your mechanic to 0 in order to slightly increase your surviviability in those rare situations where you are probably dead as **** anyways seems like a total waste.

Is there chance that these mechanics could ever be changed? Or does anyone feel that they are fine?

Be careful.. telling all those sorcs that their class is op and takes no skill will hurt some ppls feelings.

It would be pointless, devs already said that bw/sorcs are fine

BW/Sorc mechanic:

Stand next to a healer
Roll face across keyboard
Watch people explode in the next time stamp

I think sorc is a bit harder to play than BW because latter don’t have to deal with pounce

And yeah they are fine, both are equally BS but serve their role and function exemplarily as rDPS glass cannons

Their damage is just going to get better I'm afraid. Come 35 they get another dot so there's another 1k skimmed off your hp.

You will probably still be fine if your cleansed and guarded if not well happy respawning.

Makes me wish I had my absorb pots :P

Risk-reward. Your real damage is only when 90+ combust. So you use healers, watch your hp and do a great job. Still it isn't just a faceroll because normal players without cerebral palcy start to run away or start to find some vision breaker when saw Ignite/BB // Chillwind/WoP on them. Sometimes it is tricky to hold LoS to target for full roll.

Fixed it for you :P

Most people never kite away when they take damage or use LoS... they just blame the tanks and healers for not keeping them up when 8 people are on them.

Bad players are always impossible to heal. :/

IDK mara pull is much more prevalent than fetch in T4, at least on live. Which is essentially a guaranteed death sentence compared to pounce.

Devs were just talking about nerfing them in terms of their ability to bomb at keeps/ORvR but I'm not sure if anything will come of it.

Either way I think it would be unfair to do any major changes until we have R40 out see we can finally get back into the old meta aside from the impact sov sets had / lotd etc...

The other problem is some people play mostly ORvR or mostly Scs and both have sort of drastically different meta, smaller scale open field conflicts like scs or in ORvR favor the melee train heavily whereas things like keeps and chokes definitely favors RDPS, AoE DPS like Sorc/BW Magus/Eng specially.

The best thing that could happen is making MDPS more relevant in say keep sieges and at the same time making RDPS in general more strong in 6v6/scenarios. This probably means adding in new siege mechanics that help MDPS and looking at core game mechanics that favor MDPS over RDPS like guard, detaunt, etc...

Spoiler:
tfw my thread is already completely off topic in less than 1 page

Mara pull was always more of an issue to deal with especially when combined with the knockdown.

The only real effective ways to compete against mara pull was a well timed Mage bolt in mid air, or Stop, Drop and Roll before the intial cast was completed. (I know on live there was a bug that if I timed it just right I could force the pull to go direct onto CD.

Smart Bws will manage their combustion levels if not near a Healer as well. However if there is a healer nearby who is paying attention to you. There is really no downside.
