Is the game still new player friendly?

The question is simply that, with all the changes over the past several weeks, is the game still friendly to new players? Keep in mind that a new player will have no gold and no resources.

Considering the new lvl 35 cap items you are still able to gear up pretty nicely as blue cloaks are actually better than purples and eternal weapons are better than scenario weapons too. If you can survive without purple talismans then it should be fine.

Gear wise, difference is small, but I think a balance should be found between releasing T4 too early and too late. Too early would be a steep curve for most of the new players, too late will be devastating for the majority of old ones, and by that I mean mostly the ones who also played on live. Knowing your class is what really makes you good, even thought we all tend to forget it and get into twinking and all the "few more stats" paranoia.

Of course its player friendly! Nothing friendlier than a BW/Sorc oneshot in t3.
And even the admin is a cheerful guy ;)

I will take a stab at answering this first as I re-rolled order, having no assets there.

Rune Priest:

With my rune priest, I leveled to 10 strictly through scenarios. I am a great healer and played a RP on live to RR100, so I am already at a huge advantage over to someone completely green. With that said, I had geared out completely through vendors. Obviously I am at a huge stat and power disadvantage over someone established that can twink out a character, but my experience with the game can nullify a lot of that. Of course a green player won't have that....

The leveling up was pretty smooth, but of course as a healer in T1, even if you are half way decent you can greatly influence scenario outcome. With a few lucky drops I was able to sell, I probably made about 3.5 gold total to level 10. Not near enough to buy the next mount of course.

BW:

With my BW, I began by trying to level up strictly through PvE. (again I have an advantage over a completely green player as I had a RR100 BW on live as well). The drop rate on mobs was too low for me to gear myself out at all (one piece of BW gear through level 6) and I didn't have the renown rank to buy anything from the vendor. I was also sitting at a quarter of the money by RP had by the same point, so I was forced to abandon the PvE only leveling. Once I started scenarios, the leveling went quicker and I started to make a little money to buy gear. I continued doing PvE between pops (since NA can be really slow across the board) and got lucky with a couple of blue dye drops. The blue dye drops were responsible for probably 80% of my income combined for both toons. With the lucky dye drops, I probably made 7 gold or so total on this toon by level 10.

I guess the question really is, is this in line with the vision of the developers and have the changes had the intended effects? I know that my RP/BW will never get medallion gear for max level/rank due to my play time (NA) so I will have to make due with stalker/emblem/random gear. That is probably ok. I also know from experience, having leveled a destro toon after the scenario nerf, that I will have to put most of my money into crafting because it is prohibitively expensive otherwise. Someone completely green is going to hit 35 with like 50 gold to their name, wonder why they are getting stomped all the time, and then look at the prices/grind in front of them to gear out to be competitive. (fortunately on destro I just transferred money from one toon leveled before money nerf to my newer toon )

This is not meant to be negative in anyways, but just how I see it so far. I will try to update my 'experience' as I get further along on my order toons, but dont expect much as I am extremely casual now that I am the only one left playing in my guild.

SC vs ORvR might have been a better comparison. PVE is far from polished atm.

What do you mean by "new players"? Do you mean someone like yourself that has played the game before, but is starting with no gold and no leveled characters? Then sure, its fine, you already know how to play, so you just need to learn whats new, and where to make gold/buy gear, and so on.

For a brand new player that has never played this game? Theyre better off trying to play diablo on the highest difficulty without having played before. No new player resources, no idea how to even get started with scs/rvr, no idea on what classes are supposed to do, ect. And god help them if they get into t3 and try to pug anything. Its possible if they find an active guild that can help them, but if they dont, well, good luck to them.

That being said, has anyone written a new player guide for this server yet? I could start on one as long as someone else hasnt done the same already.
