Alot of bans in recent weeks. Seems like you can hardly go a day or two without seeing someone posting up a ban thread.
Sure would be cool to see a log of the GM's making these bans. Is there a frequency pattern? That sort of thing. Unfortunate really. I find it hard to believe that just months ago the server had less riff-raff than it does today...but the adjudication occurring on this server in recent weeks would seem to indicate otherwise.
I'd sure like to see some transparency in those bans. At least a log of them. And the reason for ban. Would be a great lesson learned for the community regarding what is being banned...and would also put a spotlight on just how frequent these things are becoming.
These are dark days and tough times.

All of what you just listed could and would be used for public shaming.
People do dumb **** all the time. Let them pay the price.

I cannot imagine a positive reaction to this idea
Altho some kind of guidline for bannable offences would be nice

Re: Dark Days
A tip on how not to get banned... play within the rules, don't spam global chat with non-sense or trolly remarks, and hope you don't get a dev with a fast trigger.

Re: Dark Days
I would just like to take this opportunity to clarify that these "bans" that you are referring to are short term temporary bans or exiles (where the player is sent to the moon for a short period of time).
No players have been permanently banned. I feel this is where the main confusion amongst the community is coming from.
Permanent bans are for severe breaches in ToS, and there have been one or two in the past couple of months (to my knowledge).
That said, we do have strong grounds to stand on to hand out such temp actions to players. All actions are then moderated by as to make sure that it can be confirmed as justified action. They all abide the Terms of service which I strongly believe most players don't bother to read, hence the reasoning for their penalties.

Re: Dark Days
I'm intrigued. The public shaming argument gets brought up a lot, but I don't understand how that would work?
I mean, can someone give me an example? I ban someone for 7 days for, for example, flaming a staff member. I'd like to know:
a) how this can be used harmfully and still be within the rules
b) why any such demonstrated harm trumps the benefits of having all players aware of the reasons for a ban and gaining confidence in the ban system
c) why any such demonstrated harm trumps my right not to have players whining in their own private channels about a total misrepresentation of what they were actually banned for (which I have personally seen)?

Re: Dark Days
I'm all for publicly stating why people get banned. That would include chat logs and screenshots of the offence. The forum section where these bans are explained would of course be read-only.

Re: Dark Days
You can point to a direct photographic quote, and someone will claim you photo shopped it. Or that you created an alt on your test server to incriminate them. Trolls will be trolls.
If it helps the staff at all to publicly shame, then do so. However, the person can just go create another account and reenter the game in total Anonymity, so whom are you shaming? I would hazard a guess that alot of bans are handed out to relatively new accounts. Or those who login while shitty drunk. But I could see that it might lessen the extent that GMs have to spend dealing with the ****.
Now, I'm just being me over here, but I haven't seen anything that would make me think anyone on the team is trying to "overstep" their powers. Every person reacts to stimuli differently, but if you bark at a GM, knowingly spam when asked to stop, or break the rules that you should be well aware of, that's on you. It is human nature to refuse blame ofc. Oh, and trolls will be trolls. But I see vehement arguments all the time. Just don't go out of your way to be a total douche.
