Is it possible to improve textures?

I love Warhammer Online. Played it for about a years and a half before it completely died off.

But after finding this server It doesn't seem the game aged very well.

Everything is very muddy looking and the player models in the distance just look really weird and clunky.

It would be pretty cool if it was possible to get a HD texture pack or something.

Unfortunately, I tried that. Doesn't really improve anything outside changing up the Lighting / shading. Still very noticeable muddy textures that just look bad.

If it's not possible that sucks but it's something that will need to be dealt with. Was just curious because I know the Vanilla Warcraft Private server community have people who actually do improve the textures in old Versions of the game but It may be just them ripping newer models off the newer xpacs only.

The best improvement I got was using my Graphics card setting to scale the game to 4k but it was really laggy.

The Difference is almost unnoticeable though. You can kind of see it on the tree branches in the back.

Try forcing enhanced AA and higher rendering settings in the control panel of your graphics card. Either Nvidia control panel (if Nvidia) or Crimson (AMD).

I've done that as well. Was you able to actually get rid of the Muddy Textures like this? I really seen no obvious difference when fooling with all that stuff.

Even messing with 4k didn't help much.

4k Wont do that much on a game that was released in 2008. Best results for me come from messing with NVIDIA control panel. Bit of AA + AF. Might get some better results with 16x AF

Meh, doesn't do enough to make a difference to be honest. Guess I'll just have to deal with it.

AF through your video card does wonders, sharpening through reshade or sweetFX helps but remember it conflicts with AA, but you shouldn't really need much AA if you are running 1080p+.

edit: heres a good example of AF in game

First of all avoid Sildur's Enhanced Graphics Mod - it doesn't improve texture quality in any way it just changes colors and adds ambient occlusion which kills FPS.

Second do not force AA (Anti Aliasing) to more than 2x in the GPU drivers - this will hit your framerate very hard, especially in bigger fights.

Finally to improve texture quality you can force AF (Anisotropic Filtering) to x16. This has no noticeable performance hit and will make textures look much better.

I'll sort out some before/after screens for you if you care.

Sure, I did this just didn't notice anything. Maybe, you can point something out that flips a switch in my eye though ;D.

It's also possible I just did it incorrectly and didn't see anything.
