Strength and weaknesses of Order Tanks

Hi all! I am new to ReturnOfReckining. I used to play a few years back in the official game.

First of all congratulations for the awesome work everyone has done to bring live this beast of a game again!

And second i would like some info. I want to build a new char. I like order and i always played tanks.

So, between Iron breaker and Knight of the blazing sun. Who is better for RVR but also for finding groups for quests/events and stuff.

What are the benefits over the other between the two , and what are the loses ?

I dont really like how swordmaster is playing , is he really worth it ?

To clarify. What i am asking is a simple con pros opinion to help me decide . Like . IB is tankyier (i dont know it used to be) but he lacks CC. Kotbs gives more buffs but he cant protect that good. and stuff like that !

Who do you think is better and why or why not .

Thnk you again .

My take on order tanks. Purely ranking them:

DPS: SM > IB > kotbs (both 2h and snb)
Utility: Kotbs > IB > SM

Most grps run 2 tanks, and imho all grps need 1 kotbs cus of how good the auras and critt is. Then it comes down to what dps classes you want to pair with the tank. Kotbs goes good with everyone and epecially magic dps like BW. SM pairs good with dps AM, WL and WH. IB is good at boosting 1 char (cus of oathfriend) and complement a slayer really well, but also WH.

When it comes to orvr and zerg v zerg fights the kotbs simply is the king.

All 3 tanks are good in pve. SM is the only tank that can be viable as a 2h tank in pve.

If u like to solo a bit, IB or SM is the way to go.

Strengths and weaknesses:

Kotbs:
Strenght--> stat auras, ap aura, resist aura, +heal aura, +20 critt to grp, long punt
weaknesses--> shitty dps! no heal debuff (aura doesnt count), kinda booring to play (imo)

IB:
Strenght--> outgoing heal debuff, af debuff, awesome buffs for self and 1 other player, decent dps, tanky as shitt
weaknesses--> No grp utility, lackluster in zerg fights,

SM:
Strenght--> best dps for a tank, WW, is viable 2h, good solo potential, spirit debuff, strong vs singel opponent,
weaknesses--> no heal debuff, no reliable grp utility other then WW and CW,

(I'm sure I'm forgetting tons here)

KotBS seems to be the last order hope and defence against destro melee-train hordes. The best order SnB tank and in my opinion 2 after BO in the game in this aspect due to its buffing utilities and CC. SnB KotBS is required in every competitive group/party. Also viable as 2h off-tank but in this aspect it is not much better than IB or SM.

IB hmmm a bit disappoints me. Its better than Knight in guarding/buffing single target but overall does't shine in RoR like it was in AoR.

SM along BO was buffed in RoR and now theoretically is part of the meta. However. if BO buff is easly visible (it become best destro tank especially as a SnB and is added usually to Morale buffing combo with Chosen) i still can't asses SM usefulness. For me typical order SM's cause more problem than help due to spamable aoe knock back which gives Destro aoe immunity to my punt  .

As far as the ''tankyness'' go, it really doesn't matter past a certain point. A full defensive SnB tank with 1k toughness and max block is gonna be tanky enough no matter the class. So, don't decide based on that : as far as i'm concerned, all tanks can be super tanky.

Now, if you wanna play a SnB tanky tank the answer is simple : kotbs outshines every other tanks in the game.

1- It has the best CC : stagger, AoE snare that dok can't cleanse, best punt, KD.
2- It has better buffs : +15% on all healing on group members, 10% crit passive, 10% chance for enemies to be crit + auras (you don't need to twist em in RoR, you can run 3 auras by default with 100% uptime.

BUT

Imo, IB and SM are more fun to play. Most of the knight stuff is passive, so you don't really need to be good at it to look good at it (see knights as the user friendly model that every group wants). SM and IB requires a more ''Active'' playstyle to really shine, as you actually need to keep your buffs/debuffs up and keep track of em all the time. They also both do better damage than the knight and are better 2H tanks.

So if you want a pure goodness SnB tank that brings it all, play a knight.

If you want more of a 2H crazy tank, play SM or IB (they are mostly equal in my mind, IB having better CC and SM doing a tad bit more damage).

Edit : ah well, getting a coffee, clicking submit and you already got your answer lol.

SM is great for premade grps that are build around SM strong points (cooldown decrease usually)
IB is great for smallscale and for melee train (works nice with slayer, nice CC and buffs/debuff - doks unable to cleanse IB debuffs)
knobs are number 1 tank your group usually wants. with right spec u do not even need to pres any button and still be super support class :D

on destro side - I had opinion for a very long time - BO is the best choice for tank and if they would have ST super punt it would be very clear

Yes, the knight has all these great things, but you can't have all of them together. A lot of the goodies are tactics, some of them mastery spec tactics, and you can only have 4 active at a time.

AoE snare - tactic, requires 3 points in Conquest.
AoE stagger - 9 points in Glory.
KD - 9 points in Vigilance.
10% crit buff - tactic, requires 3 points in Vigilance.
+10% chance to be crit debuff - tactic, requires 7 points in Conquest.
+15% incoming heal buff - tactic, requires 7 points in Glory.
Upgraded punt - Core tactic.

So we've already got 5 listed tactics, and that doesn't allow for Runefang (excellent defensive and offensive boost), Bellow Commands (huge AP regen) or Rugged.

Knights are definitely good, but we're not THAT good.
